The Lourdes University baseball team was on the road Thursday afternoon in Mishawaka, IN taking on the Pilots of Bethel College in double header action. The Gray Wolves would lose both games 4-3 and 11-2.
The Gray Wolves would play tough in the first game against the Pilots as they mounted a comeback effort after trailing 3-2 in the third inning. Lourdes would score a run in the 5
th but for not as they would fall 4-3. Jim Dunnett would suffer his second loss of the season going all six innings pitched. He would give up 10 hits leading to 4 earned runs while striking out 4 and walking none. Tyler Trame and Garret Jex would each finish with two hits in the game while Andy Kefalos finished with two walks.
The Gray Wolves would take a short breather after game 1 and return to the field for game 2 with Kyle Vandecaveye on the mound. Kyle would not have the day he was hoping for as he was shelled for 5 earned runs on 10 hits in 2.2 innings pitched. Bethel would score 2 runs in the first inning, 3 in the third, 3 in the fourth, 1 in the fifth and 2 in the sixth. Lourdes would get on the board in the top of the 7
th inning as Garret Jex would get both rbi scoring Phillip Dysard and Brad Gennari.
The Gray Wolves fall to 4-12 overall and will look to bounce back on Saturday in Goshen, IN against Goshen College starting at 1pm. The Gray Wolves will have their home opener on Sunday against Rochester College on the new Mercy Field with a double header scheduled starting at 1pm.
