Gray Wolves Fall In Close Games to Concordia

SYLVANIA, OH – It was a great afternoon for some Lourdes University baseball action who took on Concordia University in a conference double header. Lourdes drops both games with a score of 5-6 and 3-5.

Game one of the day was a close one with Lourdes attempting to battle back in the bottom of the 9th. The game started off toe-to-toe with Concordia's Ryan Neu scoring on a sacrifice fly tying up the game in the bottom of the 2nd until Concordia took a 3 to 1 lead after the 3rd inning.  Concordia continued to lead through the 9th inning until Lourdes showed some hope by scoring 3 runs in the bottom, but it was not enough to clinch the game. Jake Conklin went 2-for-5 and Marty Hall went 2-fo- 4, while Nick Mazgay, Pat Magat, Andy Kefalos, and Austin Gunn each contributed with a hit each.

Defensively, Lourdes made some great play completing the game with no errors. In the top of the 2nd, Patrick Magat gunned down Concordia's Thomas Sperry at 2nd. In the top of the 5th, Lourdes turns a 6-4-3 double play.

Lourdes ended the game with 5 runs on 8 hits and no errors. Concordia finishes with 6 runs on 9 hits and 2 errors. Lourdes falls to 1-14 in the WHAC and 8-31 overall. Concordia goes to 6-11 in the WHAC and 17-23 overall.

Game Two – Lourdes jumps to an early lead on a lead-off double by Austin Gunn. Gunn would then score after Jake Conklin moves him to 3rd and Patrick Magat scores him in on a double. Lourdes continued their lead until the bottom of the 5th inning in which Concordia scored 3 runs. Garrett  Jex would then have another double in the top of the 6th off a base hit by Marty Hall. Both Austin Gunn and Garrett Jex would have 2 hits, while Patrick Magat, Andy Kefalos, Tyler Trame, Marty Hall and Brandon D'Agnese would each have a hit.

Lourdes would keep the game close on defense with an amazing diving catch by second baseman Jake Conklin in the bottom of the 5th. In the bottom of the 6th, Kevin Krysiak of Concordia would be rundown attempting to steal home. Lourdes would commit no errors in the second game, but it wouldn't be enough of the Gray Wolves though who drop the second game 3-5.

With this loss, Lourdes would fall to 1-15 in the WHAC and 8-32 overall, with Concordia increasing to 7-11 in the WHAC and 18-23 overall.
