It was a difficult doubleheader once again for the Lourdes University Gray Wolves as they played at WHAC opponent Aquinas College at Kimble Field in Wyoming, MI. The Gray Wolves lost both games 14-4 and 6-2 on Saturday afternoon.
Lourdes would get 10 run ruled in the scheduled 9 inning affair that finished in 7 with the 14-4 loss. Lourdes got on the board with a run scored in the top of the first inning and would tack on three more runs in the third inning holding onto a 4-1 lead before Aquinas would come alive at the plate and drop 12 runs on the Gray Wolves in the bottom of the seventh.
Only Garrett Jex managed to get a two hit game going 2-3 with an rbi. Lourdes managed 7 hits in the game. Aquinas finished the game with four multi hit players including 3
rd baseman Nick Kissane with 3 hits in 5 at bats with 3 runs scored and 2 rbi.
Frank Shaffer suffered the loss going 6 innings giving up 5 earned runs on 10 hits. Vince Misiewicz got the win going 7 innings of 7 hit ball.
Game two would be better for Lourdes except for the result which was a loss of 6-2. Lourdes finished the game with 2 runs on 6 hits with a run in the 1
st and 3
rd innings.
Austin Gunn and Andy Kefalos each finished the game with multi hits including Austin with 3 hits in 4 plate appearances including scoring both runs.
Lee Lovejoy suffered his seventh loss of the season after pitching 6 innings giving up 12 hits and 5 earned runs and 1 walk with zero strikeouts.
Lourdes moves to 8-38 overall and 1-21 in WHAC. Lourdes will look to try and earn a series split with doubleheader action at Aquinas on Sunday starting at 1pm.
