Lourdes Closes Out Season In The Cold

Cold, wet and miserable conditions was the theme of the day for the Lourdes University baseball team as they wrapped up the season against Indiana Tech on Saturday afternoon at Mercy Field.

Game one went the way of the Warriors as they defeated the Gray Wolves 2-0 in a tightly contested battle. The Gray Wolves matched the Warriors in hits with 7 but just unable to bring home runners as they stranded 6 on the base paths.

Drew Lepiarz went 6 strong innings on the mound for Lourdes giving up just 2 earned runs on 5 hits with 7 walks and 4 strikeouts. Kyle Vandecaveye pitched 2 innings in relief giving up 2 hits and 1 walk.

Tyler Trame busted two hits on bloop singles to lead the hitting for Lourdes in the game. Austin Gunn, Jake Conklin, Phillip Dysard, Mark Oehlers and Nick Mazgay each collected hits in the game as well.

Game two would be close early through the cold conditions as Lourdes found themselves down early 1-0 after 3.5 innings. The Gray Wolves found some mojo of their own in the bottom of the 4th inning as Andy Kefalos and Garrett Jex would each find home plate to give the Gray Wolves their first lead of the day 2-1. The lead would not last for long though as the Warriors managed to put together a pair of runs in the top of 5th inning and 3 more in the 6th and 2 in the 7th to win 8-2.

Jim Dunnett suffered his 8th loss of the season going 5.1 innings on the mound giving up 6 earned runs on 6 hits, 4 walks and 1 strikeout.

Garrett Jex scored one of the runs in the game for Lourdes and was the only player with at 2 hits.

“I am very proud of how the guys played today through tough weather conditions and playing such a good team. It's been a tough year but I feel that this team has layed a solid foundation in it's first year and hopefully paved the way for years to come” said Head Coach Andy Ham after the game.

Lourdes finishes the year without a bid to WHAC tournament and an overall record of 8-45 with a WHAC record of 1-27.
