Webber International Trips Up Lourdes Monday Night

Box Score
Lourdes continues to look for its first victory on its spring trip after falling 12-1 on Monday evening to Webber International in Babson Park, Fla.

“Our pitchers just did not throw enough strikes today,” head coach Andy Ham stated.  “We need our bullpen to be more consistent and find a way to score some runs offensively.”

The host Warriors scored first with a single run in the bottom of the third before Lourdes quickly tied the game in the fourth.  John Crooks (Toledo, Ohio/Ottawa Hills H.S.) doubled to lead off the inning and three batters later Cole Fitzgerald (Rome, N.Y./Centerville [Ohio] H.S.) added his own RBI two-bagger.

Webber International (15-9) would break the tie in the bottom of the fourth and then erupt for four runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth.  The Warriors then ended the game with a run-rule victory after a three-run single by Tim Hoelzer in the seventh inning.

Lourdes managed just four hits against a pair of Warrior hurlers, as Cody Palmquist earned the win (2-1), pitching six innings allowing just one run and four hits while striking out 10 Gray Wolves.  Lee Lovejoy (Ravenna, Ohio/Ravenna H.S.) suffered the loss (1-1), giving up two runs in four innings of work.

Hoelzer and Jason Anderson each drove home four runs for Webber International while Hoelzer had three of the Warriors' 13 hits.

Lourdes (2-7) will return to action in Babson Park on Tuesday afternoon, facing Bethel (Ind.).  First pitch is slated for noon.
