Davenport Pitchers Silence Lourdes Bats

Lourdes baseball team was limited to just one hit in each of the two games of Sunday's doubleheader at the Farmers Complex in Grand Rapids, Mich., as the Gray Wolves were shutout in both contests against Davenport 4-0 and 2-0.
 
The Gray Wolves got solid pitching performances in both games, but were unable to push a run across the plate.
 
In the opener Davenport scored a pair of unearned runs in the third, taking advantage of one of three Lourdes errors in the contest to take the lead.  A triple followed by a single made it 3-0 Panthers in the fifth and a final unearned run crossed the plate in the eighth for the final margin of victory.
 
Zach Liebman went the distance for Davenport in the win (4-0), allowing just a seventh inning single to John Crooks (Toledo, Ohio/Ottawa Hills H.S.).  He walked two while striking out 11 in the game.
 
Drew Lepiarz (Toledo, Ohio/Start H.S.) started and went six innings for Lourdes before suffering the loss (4-3).  He gave up just one earned run on six hits.
 
Cam Cooper led Davenport's eight-hit attack in game one going 3-for-4 with a RBI.
 
In game two Davenport (28-12, 13-6 WHAC) jumped in front in the second on a double by Michael Allen, a sacrifice bunt, and a ground out.  Another Allen double in the sixth, he went 3-for-3 in the nightcap, and a single by Edward Grochowalski led to the Panthers second run.
 
Lee Lovejoy (Ravenna, Ohio/Ravenna H.S.) allowed just six hits and walked just one in 5.1 innings of work while suffering the loss (2-6).  Drew Sain gave up just a sixth inning single to Josh Redies (Saline, Mich./Saline H.S.) in the sixth over 5.2 innings while striking out seven.  He did walk five in the win (4-0).  Ryan Butzer pitched the final 1.1 innings to earn his fifth save of the year.
 
Lourdes (14-26-1, 5-17-1) will return to the diamond on Wednesday afternoon, traveling to Rochester, Mich. to battle Rochester.  First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 2 p.m.
