Lourdes University continued its tour through Kentucky on Tuesday afternoon, dropping both ends of a doubleheader to Pikeville 12-6 and 11-6 at Johnnie LeMaster Field in Pikeville, Ky.
 
The Gray Wolves jumped on top in the opening inning of game one as Andy Kefalos (Barberton, Ohio/Barberton H.S.) doubled home John Crooks (Toledo, Ohio/Ottawa Hills H.S.) and scored himself two batters later on a single by Marty Ramirez (Toledo, Ohio/Start H.S.).
 
Pikeville answered in the bottom of the inning, taking advantage of two Lourdes errors to score four unearned runs.  Lourdes cut the deficit in half in the top of the third as Cody Berg's (Garrettsville, Ohio/James A. Garfield H.S.) RBI groundout plated Ryan Kovar (Cleveland, Ohio/Benedictine H.S.).
 
After the Bears scored a single run in the third, they erupted for seven more in the fourth to build a 12-3 lead.  Lourdes cut into the deficit in the top of the fifth with three runs as Ramirez singled home one run and Kefalos scored another on a wild pitch.  Victor Diaz (Medina, Ohio/Cloverleaf H.S.) singled home Josh Redies (Saline, Mich./Saline H.S.) with the final run of the game as the Gray Wolves could not close the gap the rest of the way.
 
Ramirez finished the game 3-for-3 while Kefalos had two more hits as part of a 10-hit attack for the Gray Wolves.
 
Tyler Williams earned the win for Pikeville, allowing two earned runs and five hits.  Kyle Vandecaveye (Ida, Mich./Ida H.S.) suffered the loss, giving up nine runs, five of which were earned, and six hits in three innings.
 
In the nightcap it was Pikeville (15-9) that plated the game's first six runs, scoring two in the first and four more in the third.  Lourdes finally got on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth as Nate Snow (Tucson, Ariz./Palo Verde H.S.) singled home Cole Fitzgerald (Rome, N.Y/Centerville [Ohio] H.S.).
 
After the Bears added a run in the bottom of the fourth, Fitzgerald and Tyler Trame (Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic H.S.) each tallied RBI hits in the fifth.  Again Pikeville answered, this time with three in the bottom of the fifth to increase the lead to 10-3.
 
Snow scored on a Pikeville error in the sixth inning while Zak Laubscher (Twinsburg, Ohio/Twinsburg H.S.) and Sam Jerome (Barberton, Ohio/Barberton H.S.) each added RBI singles in the seventh, sandwiched around one final run from the hosts.
 
Lourdes had 14 hits in the nightcap compared with 13 for the Bears.  Pikeville took advantage of seven Gray Wolf walks though.  Lee Lovejoy (Ravenna, Ohio/Ravenna H.S.) started and worked two innings, allowing six runs and eight hits to take the loss.  Jared Masters earned the win, surrendering three runs and six hits for Pikeville.
 
Lourdes (0-4) was scheduled to travel to Wilmore, Ky. on Wednesday to make up a doubleheader that was postponed last Friday, but those games have been now cancelled due to forecasted rain and snow.  The Gray Wolves are now scheduled to open the home campaign on Friday afternoon, hosting Grace at Mercy Field.  First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 1 p.m.
