Indiana Tech Takes Two from Lourdes on Frigid Wednesday Afternoon

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
Indiana Tech pitchers limited Lourdes hitters to just eight hits over two games on Wednesday afternoon as the Warriors swept a doubleheader from the Gray Wolves 7-0 and 5-2 at a frigid Mercy Field.

Brian Gremaux tossed 5.2 innings of no-hit baseball in the opener until Nick Mazgay (Centerburg, Ohio/Centerburg H.S.) delivered a pinch-hit triple in the sixth.  That would be the lone hit Gremaux would allow in six scoreless innings to earn the win (1-1). He walked three and struck out five.

The Warriors scored a run in the opening inning and added two more in the third to take the lead.  Single runs in the fourth and fifth increased the advantage to 5-0, before the visitors tacked on two more tallies in the ninth.

Lourdes tried to mount a threat in the seventh, loading the bases with one out, but a double play ended the inning.  Josh Redies (Saline, Mich./Saline H.S.) went 2-for-4 for the Gray Wolves as the team managed just five hits in the opener.

Drew Lepiarz (Toledo, Ohio/Start H.S.) suffered the loss (0-3), giving up five runs and nine hits in 4.2 innings of work.

Indiana Tech (11-11-1, 3-1 WHAC) jumped in front with a two-out run in the top of the first of game two, only to see the Gray Wolves tie the contest in the bottom of the frame.  With two outs, Redies hit a fly ball to right that was dropped, allowing Cole Fitzgerald (Rome, N.Y/Centerville [Ohio] H.S.) to score.

Lourdes took the lead 2-1 in the fourth as Nick Toth's (Medina, Ohio/Hudson H.S.) ground out with the bases loaded plated Mazgay.

A triple by Justin Kalusa, one of his four hits in game two and six hits on the afternoon, tied the game in the fifth and Indiana Tech took the lead with an unearned run in the sixth.  The Warriors added two more insurance runs in the seventh to secure the win.

Curtis Wise earned the win (4-0) for Indiana Tech, giving up just one hit and one walk in 3.1 innings of scoreless relief while striking out three.  Ryan Veres (Toledo, Ohio/Start H.S.) suffered the loss (0-1) in relief, giving up just one unearned run.

Fitzgerald had two of Lourdes three hits in the nightcap.

Lourdes (2-14, 2-8) will return to the diamond on Saturday afternoon to face Rochester (Mich.).
