Box Score Lourdes gave a valiant effort on Wednesday evening against #1 Dayton on the road, but came up one goal short, falling to the Flyers 16-15 in Dayton, Ohio and in the process suffered its first loss of the season.
Trailing by as many as five in the second half, the Gray Wolves battled back and tied the game at 14 with 2:18 to play as
Avery Levonuk (Philadelphia, Pa./Harriton H.S.) scored after receiving a feed from
Jared Yoshino (Toledo, Ohio/Southview H.S.). The Flyers scored the next two goals before Yoshino scored his sixth goal of the night with 1:05 to play to cut the deficit to one.
Lourdes was unable to find the back of the cage in the final minute, suffering its first setback in program history.
Dayton (12-1, 3-0 South) led 4-3 after the opening quarter and 8-7 at halftime before break trailing 13-8 after three quarters.
Yoshino led the Gray Wolves with his six goals while
Danny Bichsel (Westerville, Ohio/North H.S.) and
Dylan Gill (Holland, Ohio/Saint Francis H.S.) each added three tallies. Levonuk had two goals while
Andrew DiMartini (Sylvania, Ohio/Southview H.S.) had Lourdes other goal on the night.
Connor Mishler (Lambertville, Mich./Saint John's H.S.) made 23 saves in goal to keep the game tight throughout.
Lourdes (10-1, 1-1) will close out the home portion of its inaugural season on Saturday afternoon, hosting #6 Grove City at Central Catholic High School. The opening draw is set for 1 p.m.
