Upcoming in Gray Wolves Lacrosse: Lourdes University opens its second season of intercollegiate lacrosse on Friday evening as the Gray Wolves travel to Auburn, Mich. to face Saginaw Valley State. The Gray Wolves will play their first seven games away from home.
Head Coach Patrick Yannarelli: In his second season on the Lourdes bench,
Patrick Yannarelli has an 11-3 (.786) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Lourdes and Saginaw Valley State are meeting for the first time on the field in men's lacrosse.
Wrapping Up 2014: Lourdes finished 2014 with an 11-3 overall record and a 1-2 mark in the CCLA South Division, finishing in third place in the league standings.Â
Jared Yoshino led the Gray Wolves with 80 points on the season, scoring 38 goals while handing out a team-leading 42 assists.Â
Danny Bichsel had a team-high 55 goals and finished with 70 points. In goal, Connor Mishler played a majority of the minutes, sporting an 8.71 goals against average and a .546 save percentage.
Scouting Saginaw Valley State: The Cardinals opened their season on Feb. 18, suffering a 23-3 loss at Central Michigan. Jacob Simmons scored twice for Saginaw Valley State while Jacob Heminger added the other goal. Between the posts, Jared Huskins went the distance for the Cardinals.
Lourdes in Openers: Lourdes is 1-0 all-time in season-opening games. Last year the Gray Wolves "hosted" Oakland at Detroit Country Day School and earned a 14-6 victory over the Golden Grizzlies. In their road opener last season, Lourdes posted an 18-4 win at Coastal Carolina.
Yoshino Returns after Numerous Accolades: Jared Yoshino, Lourdes' top point scorer with 80 last season, returns to the field for his sophomore season. As a freshman, Yoshino garnered Third Team MCLA All-America honors and was named to the CCLA Second Team. In addition, Yoshino was a First Team All Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference selection as well as the WHAC Newcomer of the Year.
Gill Starts Things in the Circle: Dylan Gill earned First Team All-WHAC honors and was a Second Team All-CCLA pick for the Gray Wolves in 2014 and returns for his junior campaign at Lourdes. The team's faceoff specialist, he won 54% of his draws one year ago while also collecting a team-leading 121 ground balls.
More Award Winners: Dakota Ladd leads the defense for Lourdes after earning First Team All-WHAC honors as a freshman. He returns along with
Danny Bichsel, who scored a team-high 55 goals in 2014. Bichsel was an Honorable Mention All-WHAC pick as well as earned Honorable Mention All-CCLA accolades.
Lots of New Faces: The Gray Wolves have 17 freshmen on the roster this year to join nine returnees in the program's second season.Â
Dalton Vowles and
Reuben Lopez both transferred to Lourdes from Toledo while
Shannen Wesley arrives on campus as a junior from the University of Detroit Mercy, a NCAA Division I program.
This and That: Lourdes scored a season-high 23 goals against Robert Morris (Ill.) last season ...the Gray Wolves tallied a season-best 67 shot attempts versus the Eagles as well ... Connor Mishler appeared in goal in every game for Lourdes last season while
Joe Hollinger saw action in six contests ... the Gray Wolves' lone losses in program history all come to teams ranked in the top-six in the nation.
