Upcoming in Gray Wolves Lacrosse: After earning a convincing win in their season opener, Lourdes heads to Elon, N.C. to play a pair of games during their annual spring trip. The Gray Wolves will battle host Elon on Saturday evening before facing Palm Beach Atlantic in a neutral site contest on Monday night.
Head Coach Patrick Yannarelli: In his second season on the Lourdes bench,
Patrick Yannarelli has an 12-3 (.800) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Lourdes has never faced either Elon or Palm Beach Atlantic on the field in men's lacrosse.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes jumped out to a 13-1 halftime lead last Friday on the way to a convincing 21-3 season-opening victory at Saginaw Valley State.Â
Shannen Wesley scored five times in his Gray Wolf debut while
Jared Yoshino had a 10-point game with two goals and eight assists. Connor Mishler made 12 saves in goal to earn the victory for Lourdes.
Scouting Elon: The Phoenix opened the season with an 11-7 victory over Saint John's (N.Y.) before suffering a narrow 5-4 setback at the hands of North Dakota State on Sunday. Gordon Bailey and Luke Reyes-Guerra-Dunn lead the way for Elon with three goals each. Joey McLaughlin made 12 saves in the first game of the season against Saint John's.
Scouting Palm Beach Atlantic: The Sailfish are coming off of a 13-12 victory at Miami (Fla.) last Saturday afternoon. Palm Beach Atlantic downed Florida Atlantic in the season opener before falling to Dayton. Joey Bauer has scored eight goals and added three assists for 11 points for the Sailfish while Robert Aycock has added six goals. Greg Swanson has 10 points with five goals and five assists. In goal, Drake Kessell sports a 12.67 goals against average and a .563 save percentage.
Still Ranked 19th This Week: Lourdes remains ranked 19th in the latest MCLA Division II poll (week two). The Gray Wolves were ranked 18th in the preseason poll and fell to #19 last week despite having not played.
Looking for a Ranked Victory: Lourdes is 0-3 all-time against teams ranked in the MCLA Division II top-25 poll, which marks the only three losses in program history. All three of the Gray Wolves setbacks came against teams ranked in the top-six in the nation (#1 Dayton, #5 Grand Valley State, #6 Grove City) last year.
Lots of Goal Scorers: Led by
Shannen Wesley's five goals, Lourdes had seven different goal scorers in the season opener.Â
Dylan Gill,
Scott Lamoreaux, and
Dalton Vowles each scored four times while
Jared Yoshino added two goals.Â
Stephen Wade and
Colt Webb both added their first collegiate tallies as well.
Mishler Solid in Goal: Conner Mishler made 12 saves on 15 shots in the season opener. His 12 stops tied for the fourth best performance of his career. He earned the win, the 10th of his career while increasing his career save total to 125 early in his second season.
This and That: Lourdes had 14 players make their Gray Wolf debut in the season opener ... the 21 goals scored were the third most in program history ... the team's 15 assists set a new school record ... the Gray Wolves tallied 65 shot attempts in the opener, second most in school history ... after this week's two games, Lourdes will still have four games remaining on its current season-opening seven-game road trip.
