Upcoming in Gray Wolves Soccer: Lourdes University opens its inaugural season of men's soccer on Friday afternoon when the Gray Wolves travel to Grand Rapids, Mich. to face Grace Bible. As the season begins, men's soccer will become the 14th intercollegiate sport to compete at the university.
Head Coach Barry Spitzer: In his first season on the Lourdes bench,
Barry Spitzer has a 0-0 (.000) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves as well as a men's soccer collegiate head coach at four year programs. He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: As will be a common theme for the Gray Wolves this season, Lourdes and Grace Bible are meeting on the soccer pitch for the first time.
Scouting Grace Bible: The Tigers opened their 2015 season on Tuesday evening with a 12-0 victory at Great Lakes Christian. Daniel Sischo scored three times for Grace Bible while Cameron Toliver added a pair of goals for the Tigers. Grace Bible outshot Great Lakes Christian 29-0 in the opener.
A Mixture on the Roster: Lourdes has 24 players on its inaugural roster, consisting of a mixture of freshmen and transfers.  The Gray Wolves have 11 true freshmen on this year's squad, four redshirt-freshmen, four sophomores, and five juniors. Â
Around the WHAC: With Lourdes adding men's soccer this season, all 12 schools in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference sponsor the sport. The league is one of the tops in NAIA for men's soccer, as Davenport, the defending national champion, was ranked number one in the preseason poll while Northwestern Ohio is preseason number two in the nation.
Spitzer an Experienced Head Coach: Despite this being Coach
Barry Spitzer's first four-year head coaching job on the men's side, he arrives at Lourdes with a great deal of experience. Spitzer spent seven seasons as the women's head coach at Samford University, a NCAA Division I program, compiling a 38-32-1 record. He also coached the men for eight years at Wallace State Community College, posting a 98-18-8 record.
This and That: Lourdes will make its home debut next Saturday, Sept. 5, when the Gray Wolves entertain Walsh at Wildcat Stadium ... the initial roster for 2015 contains four goalkeepers, nine defenders, seven midfielders, and four forwards.
