Upcoming in Gray Wolves Soccer: Lourdes returns home for the first time in 18 days on Wednesday as the Gray Wolves entertain Lawrence Tech in the first WHAC home match in program history. The Gray Wolves return to the road on Saturday to battle Michigan-Dearborn as the league slate hits its stride.
Head Coach Barry Spitzer: In his first season on the Lourdes bench,
Barry Spitzer has a 2-3 (.400) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves as well as a men's soccer collegiate head coach at four year programs. He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: As has been a common theme for the Gray Wolves this season, Lourdes will be meeting Lawrence Tech and Michigan-Dearborn on the soccer pitch for the first time.
Scouting Lawrence Tech: The Blue Devils are 3-0-1 in their last four matches after drawing with Marygrove 3-3 on Saturday afternoon. Matt Gibiec leads Lawrence Tech in scoring with 11 points on three goals and five assists while Kevin Wright has tallied a team-leading four goals. Between the posts, Joey Knoff has played a majority of the minutes for the Blue Devils, sporting a 1.36 goals against average and a .588 save percentage.
Scouting Michigan-Dearborn: The Wolverines have dropped two straight matches after suffering a 6-3 setback on Saturday afternoon to #2 Davenport. Michigan-Dearborn travels to Marygrove on Wednesday before entertaining Lourdes. Richard Hodnicki and Alek Vasilevski share the team lead with 12 points, as each player has tallied five goals and two assists. In goal, Aaron Johnson has seen the majority of the action for the Wolverines, sporting a 1.74 goals against average and a .667 save percentage.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes played ninth-ranked Northwestern Ohio to a tight match before falling to the Racers 2-0 on Saturday afternoon. The Racers outshot Lourdes 11-9 on the afternoon and 6-4 on goal, but
Jose Cedillo made four first half saves to keep the Gray Wolves close.
A Solid Defensive Effort: Despite being outshot for the first time this season by Northwestern Ohio, Lourdes limited the Racers to just 11 shot attempts in the match. Northwestern Ohio entered the match ranked ninth in the nation and had advanced to the NAIA national semifinals in 2014. The Gray Wolves tallied just nine shots in the contest, but are still outshooting the opposition 87-53 on the year.
Multi-Goal Efforts: After
Jake Kirchoff-Sleet scored a pair of goals against Walsh,
Adilson Darosa decided to follow suit one week later at home. Darosa found the back of the net twice in a 14-minute span to pull him even in the team's scoring race with Kirchoff-Sleet with seven points. Both players have two goals and an assist.
Mixing Up the Lineups: Just five matches into the inaugural season, Lourdes has started a variety of combinations. A total of 15 different players have found their way into the starting 11, with just five players having been given the starting nod in all five contests. A total of 21 different players have found their way onto the pitch this year.
Scoring Quick: Lourdes needed just 1:24 to find the back of the net in the home opener against Walsh, as
Jake Kirchoff-Sleet christened Wildcat Stadium.Â
Judah Goodridge nearly matched that mark in the second home contest against Cleary, scoring 1:52 into the match.
Controlling the Opening Stanza: Lourdes has outshot its opponents 47-25 in the first half through the first four matches in program history. The Gray Wolves have just outscored the opposition 5-4 during that time frame though, despite the shot edge.
Sharing Time in Goal: Jose Cedillo has started each of the last two matches between the posts, but
Mark Darling, who started the first three matches, also saw time against Northwestern Ohio. Cedillo sports a 1.33 goals against average and an .800 save percentage while Darling has posted a 2.24 GAA and a .579 save percentage.
Lots of Shots: Lourdes ranks 37th as a team in shots per match, averaging 17.4 per night. Individually,
Jake Kirchoff-Sleet is 15th in the nation attempting 4.6 shots per contest.
Captains: Adam Gonia and
Jake Kirchoff-Sleet have been named team captains for the inaugural 2015 season.
This and That: Adilson Darosa's two match-winning goals rank him 37th in NAIA in that statistical category ... Lourdes does not play back-to-back home matches all season long, and just once (Oct. 10 and 14) plays two straight road contests ...
Prince Dahome's first two shots of the season came against Northwestern Ohio, and both were on frame.
