Upcoming in Gray Wolves Soccer: After a thrilling overtime victory in its season opener, Lourdes University will play its first home men's soccer match on Saturday afternoon as the Gray Wolves welcome Walsh to Wildcat Stadium.
Head Coach Barry Spitzer: In his first season on the Lourdes bench,
Barry Spitzer has a 1-0 (1.000) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves as well as a men's soccer collegiate head coach at four year programs. He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.
On the Air: Saturday's match against Walsh will be broadcast on BCSN on Buckeye Cablesystem. The game will be shown on BCSN at 7 a.m. and 11 p.m. on Sunday. In addition, BCSN2 will show the game Saturday evening at 8 p.m. as well as on Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
Series Notes: As will be a common theme for the Gray Wolves this season, Lourdes and Walsh are meeting on the soccer pitch for the first time.
Scouting Walsh: The Cavaliers will be opening their 2015 season afternoon against Lourdes. Walsh has been picked to finish in seventh place in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference this season after posting a 7-9 mark overall and a 5-9 record in the league one year ago. Bailey Moody is Walsh's top returning scorer after tallying four goals and eight points one year ago. Jon-Paul Della Pia appeared in six matches in goal for the Cavaliers and is the only returning goalkeeper with experience. He posted a 3.41 goals against average and a .556 save percentage in 2014.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes won its first match in program history 3-2 in overtime on the road at Grace Bible last Friday.Â
Adilson Darosa scored the match-winner on a rebound with 3:58 remaining in overtime while
Mark Darling made three saves in goal to earn the victory.
Multi-Point Efforts: Jake Kirchoff-Sleet and
Adilson Darosa each scored a goal and added an assist in the opener to give the duo the early team lead with three points each. Kirchoff-Sleet scored the first goal in program history, just 11:10 into the season and assisted on the match-winner. Darosa assisted on the first goal before scoring the match-winner.
Viganoni Provides the Equalizer: Carlos Viganoni tied the match at two in the opener, scoring just 14 seconds after Grace Bible had taken the lead. For Viganoni, the goal was his first of the season.
Quite the Shooting Display: Lourdes held a 23-8 shot advantage in the season opener, including an 11-2 edge in the first half of the season opener. The Gray Wolves had 11 different players fire at least one shot in the contest.
Darling Performs in Goal: Mark Darling made three saves in 96 minutes of action to earn the victory in the opener. He earned the victory in his first collegiate contest.
Captains: Adam Gonia and
Jake Kirchoff-Sleet have been named team captains for the inaugural 2015 season.
This and That: Akilla Arno tallied his first point as a Gray Wolf with an assist on the opening goal of the year ... the Gray Wolves earned eight corner kicks against Grace Bible ... 16 different players saw action for Lourdes in the opener.
