Upcoming in Gray Wolves Soccer: Lourdes continues its four-match homestand this week with a pair of contests. The Gray Wolves look to snap their three-match losing skid on Wednesday evening, hosting Siena Heights, before entertaining sixth-ranked Northwestern Ohio on Saturday night at Wildcat Stadium.
Head Coach Barry Spitzer: In his second season on the Lourdes bench,
Barry Spitzer has an 12-10-3 (.540) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves as well as a men's soccer collegiate head coach at four year programs. He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Siena Heights won the only previous meeting against Lourdes, 1-0, on Oct. 24, 2015 at Wildcat Stadium. The Saints scored with under six minutes remaining in regulation to earn the win. Lourdes is 0-1 all-time against Northwestern Ohio. The Racers scored a 2-0 victory over the Gray Wolves on Sept. 26, 2015 in Lima, Ohio. Northwestern Ohio will make its first appearance at Wildcat Stadium on Saturday.
Wrapping Up Last Week: A pair of second half goals by Madonna on Wednesday were enough to push the Crusaders to a 3-1 victory over Lourdes in Livonia, Mich.Â
Jake Kirchoff-Sleet scored the lone Gray Wolf goal, tying the match with 1:05 remaining before halftime.Â
Jose Cedillo made 10 stops in the loss. On Saturday, Marygrove scored three times in the final 14:43 of the match to rally and defeat Lourdes 3-2 at Wildcat Stadium. Kirchoff-Sleet and
Kevin Omore each had goals for the Gray Wolves in the win, as Cedillo made nine stops.
Scouting Siena Heights: The Saints have dropped back-to-back matches after falling 4-3 at home to Michigan-Dearborn on Friday evening. Rahbar Khan leads Siena Heights in scoring with four goals and eight total points while Luis Miguel Anaya has added three goals and a helper for seven points. In goal, Leo Hisamatsu has played a majority of the minutes for the Saints, sporting a 1.94 goals against average and a .695 save percentage.
Scouting Northwestern Ohio: The Racers are unbeaten in their last seven matches (5-0-2) following a 3-0 victory over Concordia (Mich.) at home on Saturday. Northwestern Ohio travels to Indiana Tech on Wednesday before visiting Lourdes. Sean Latimer leads the Racers with 17 points this season, having tallied seven goals and three assists. Carlos Monterrey has added four goals and three helpers for 11 points, while Fernando Rizo has registered a team-high four assists. Nikola Kahvedzic has played every minute in goal for the Racers, carrying a 0.47 goals against average and an .854 save percentage.
Longest Homestand in Program History: Lourdes is in the midst of a four-match homestand, which began last Saturday and runs through Oct. 19. The Gray Wolves had never even had back-to-back home contests prior to this current homestand.
Indiana Tech Match Rescheduled: Lourdes will make up its match against Indiana Tech on Monday, Oct. 24 at 4 p.m. in Fort Wayne, Ind. The Gray Wolves and Warriors were slated to have played on Oct. 1, but severe weather prevented the contest from being contested.
Facing Ranked Foes: Lourdes will play its second ranked opponent of the season on Saturday when Northwestern Ohio visits Wildcat Stadium. Earlier this season, the Gray Wolves played third-ranked Davenport to a 1-1 draw. All-time, Lourdes is 0-2-1 against teams ranked in the NAIA top-25 poll. Â
Kirchoff-Sleet Continues to Score: Jake Kirchoff-Sleet tallied goals in both contests last week to increase his scoring total to 12 this year. The senior has tallied goals in seven of his nine matches this year, including seven of the last eight. He has recorded a point in every match except at Aquinas.
Among the NAIA Leaders: Lourdes leads all of NAIA as a team in numerous statistical categories. The Gray Wolves have scored the most goals (55) and tallied the fourth most assists (38) in the nation this season. In addition, Lourdes leads the country in goals per match (6.11) and assists per match (4.22), while ranking second in shots per match (27.00), and shots on goal per match (14.56).
Kirchoff-Sleet in the NAIA: Jake Kirchoff-Sleet is tops in the NAIA in points per match (3.33) and is fourth in goals per match (1.33). In addition, he is fifth in shots on goal per match (3.0), ninth in total shots (5.11), and 10th in total points (30). Kirchoff-Sleet is also 12th in total goals (12), 16th in assists per match (0.67), and 23rd in total assists (6).
A National Record-Setting Effort: Lourdes set a new NAIA record with its 27 goals against Great Lakes Christian on Sept. 7. The mark betters the 26 goals that Lindsey Wilson scored against Pikeville on Oct. 18, 2015. In addition, the 20 assists the Gray Wolves handed out were tied for second most in NAIA history as well. Only Texas Wesleyan (versus Dallas Christian) handed out more, recording 22 assists on Sept. 30, 2003.
Team Captain: Jake Kirchoff-Sleet is the Gray Wolves' lone captain for the 2016 season. The Lourdes senior is serving in the role for the second consecutive season.
This and That: The 55 goals the Gray Wolves have scored are 31 more than the they tallied the entire 2015 season ... a total of 18 different players have found the back of the net, with 20 total players registering at least one point on the year via assists ... Lourdes is 1-0-3 all-time in overtime contests ... the Gray Wolves are 5-4-2 all-time at home at Wildcat Stadium.
