Women's Basketball Begins 2016-2017 Saturday Against Midway

Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: Lourdes opens up its sixth season of women's basketball on Saturday afternoon as the Gray Wolves host Midway.  The Gray Wolves will be playing their first game inside the new Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.    

Head Coach Summer Quesenberry: In her first season on the Lourdes bench Summer Quesenberry has a 0-0 (.000) record.  Overall as a women's collegiate head coach, Quesenberry has a 53-68 (.438) record in her fifth season.  She is the third head coach in Lourdes program's history.

Series Notes: Lourdes and Midway are meeting for the first time ever on the hardwood Saturday.  The Gray Wolves are 2-3 all-time against teams from the River States Conference (formerly known as the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference), posting a 2-2 mark against Cincinnati Christian and an 0-1 record against Carlow.

Wrapping Up Last Season: The Gray Wolves finished the 2015-2016 season 8-21 overall and 5-17 in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference, placing 10th in the WHAC standings.  Jesse Fidler earned Honorable Mention All-WHAC honors along with WHAC All-Defensive Team accolades.

Scouting Midway: The Eagles finished the 2015-2016 season with an 0-30 record overall and a 0-18 mark in the Kentucky Intercolleigate Athletic Conference, finishing in seventh place in the West Division.  Jasmine Johnson, the team's top scorer from a season ago returns for her senior season after averaging 10.5 points per game.  

Lourdes Tabbed 10th in Preseason Poll: The Gray Wolves were selected to finish in 10th place in the WHAC this season in the preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches.  Lourdes was picked just ahead of Michigan-Dearborn, and just behind Aquinas.  Davenport was tabbed as the conference's preseason favorite for 2016-2017 after winning the conference title 10 straight seasons.

Lourdes in Season and Home Openers: This will mark the sixth straight season the Gray Wolves will open the year at home.  Lourdes is 3-2 all-time in season openers after scoring a 72-55 victory over Cincinnati Christian to begin the 2015-2016 season.  The Gray Wolves have won two straight season openers and three of their last four overall.

A New Look: Lourdes has four new faces on its roster this season, as well as a new coach.  Summer Quesenberry takes over the helm of the Gray Wolf squad after spending last season as the head coach at Brescia.  She has three freshmen on the roster, Kelena Harris, Taylor Geib, and Elayna Ackerman as well as a redshirt-freshman transfer Paige Keefer joining her as the newcomers.

A New Home: After six seasons of playing at "home" at Tam-o-Shanter, Owens CC, Adrian College, and Bowling Green State University, the Gray Wolves will finally play a home game on campus in the new Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center this year.  Lourdes posted a 17-51 record in its first five seasons in its combined "home" facilities, including a 16-45 mark at Tam-o-Shanter.

A Wealth of Returnees: Lourdes has four of its top five scorers from one season ago on its roster again in 2016-2017.  Jesse Fidler led the way, averaging 12.2 points per game.  She also led the Gray Wolves grabbing 7.6 rebounds per night and shooting 51.5% from the floor.  Lindsey Motycka added 7.9 points per game last season while Andrea Hodge tallied 7.3 points per night.  Molea Thompson added 6.5 points per game and a team-high 2.0 assists per game.

Welcome Back Familiar Faces: Midway is led by former Lourdes assistant coach John Kenger, who is in his second year at the helm of the Eagles.  Hailey Schroeder, who played for the Gray Wolves from 2013-2015, has joined Kenger's staff as an assistant coach this year.

Among the NAIA Leaders: The Gray Wolves ranked 33rd in all of NAIA Division II in 2015-2016 in scoring defense, allowing just 62.45 points per game.  Lourdes also was 46th in the country tallying 9.41 steals per night.

Individually Among the National Leaders: Jesse Fidler finished last season 11th in NAIA Division II grabbing 3.90 offensive rebounds per game.  Her 51.5% shooting ranked her 23rd nationally, while her 2.24 steals per night were 38th best.  Samantha Enck was 39th in the country with a 1.75 assist-to-turnover ratio.

Captains Named: Lourdes has a trio of captains heading into the 2016-2017 season.  Jesse Fidler is serving as a captain for her second straight season while Sara Pribonic and Andrea Hodge are in their first year in the leadership role.

This and That: The Gray Wolves have never lost an overtime game in program history, entering this season 4-0 all-time ... Jesse Fidler leads all of the current Gray Wolves with 626 career points ... Fidler is two rebounds shy of 400 for her career ... eight of the 10 returning Gray Wolves have started at least two games in their career.
