Â
Series Notes: Madonna holds a 10-0 series advantage against Lourdes dating back to Jan. 11, 2012. The Crusaders won both of last season's meetings, posting a 75-56 victory at Tam-o-Shanter while earning an 85-59 victory in Livonia, Mich. Madonna went 5-0 against the Gray Wolves at Tam-o-Shanter. Lourdes holds an 8-1 series edge against Marygrove dating back to Nov. 2, 2011. Last year the Gray Wolves swept the season series, defeating the Mustangs 88-49 at Tam-o-Shanter and 76-57 in Detroit, Mich. Lourdes is 4-1 against Marygrove all-time in Detroit.
Â
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes opened the week on Tuesday dropping a 78-65 WHAC contest on the road at Concordia (Mich.). Molea Thompson led the Gray Wolves with 20 points while Jesse Fidler added a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. The Gray Wolves bounced back on Saturday afternoon with a 76-69 non-conference victory at Olivet. Kalena Harris led Lourdes with 20 points while Daja Whiteside and Jesse Fidler each tallied double-doubles. Whiteside had 13 points and 12 rebounds while Fidler added 12 points and 11 boards.
Â
Scouting Madonna: The Crusaders enter play having had eight days after and looking to snap a two-game losing skid. Madonna last took the court on Nov. 22, dropping a 76-69 decision at home against Northwestern Ohio. Michele Hayes leads Madonna averaging 21.9 points per game on the season. Becca Sabol adds 14.6 points per night and is averaging a double-double, pulling down 11.3 rebounds per contest. Sabol had 15 points and 15 boards against Northwestern Ohio. As a team Madonna is averaging 73.4 points per game and shooting 39.1% from the floor.
Â
Scouting Marygrove: The Mustangs entered the week having dropped eight straight games after falling 83-63 at Berea on Saturday afternoon. Marygrove travels to Midway on Sunday and will head to Indiana Tech on Wednesday before facing Lourdes. Elisha Major leads Marygrove averaging 16.1 points per game, and is the lone Mustang to average double figures on the year.
Â
Fidler Posts Back-to-Back Double-Doubles: Jesse Fidler recorded a pair of double-doubles last week, giving her three for the year. Fidler scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds on Tuesday at Concordia (Mich.) before adding 12 points and 11 boards on the road at Olivet on Saturday. The junior now has five career double-doubles.
Â
Whiteside Also Registered Double-Double Saturday: Jesse Fidler was not the only Gray Wolf to tally double figures in scoring and rebounding at Olivet. Daja Whiteside also registered her second career double-double, and second of the season, with her 13-point, 12-board performance against the Comets.
Â
Harris Notches Career High: Kalena Harris posted her first 20-point game of her young career on Saturday at Olivet. The freshman guard made 7-of-14 shots from the floor on her way to 20 points, six more than she had scored in any previous game this season.
Crashing the Boards: Lourdes outrebounded Olivet 57-31 on Saturday afternoon, helping draw nearly even in rebounding on the season. The Gray Wolves have been outrebounded by just 0.2 boards per game now overall. Of the 57 rebounds, 23 came on the offensive end of the floor and led to 20 second chance points against the Comets.
Â
Perfect Twice in Three Games: Lourdes is shooting just 67.2% as a team from the free throw line, but the Gray Wolves twice this season have been perfect from the line. Two weeks ago at Aquinas (Nov. 16) Lourdes went 12-for-12 from the charity stripe, then followed that accomplishment up two games later with a 10-for-10 effort at Concordia (Mich.).
Â
Captains Named: Lourdes has a trio of captains heading into the 2016-2017 season. Jesse Fidler is serving as a captain for her second straight season while Sara Pribonic and Andrea Hodge are in their first year in the leadership role.
Â
This and That: Jesse Fidler needs 21 points to reach 750 for her career ... Fidler is also 36 rebounds shy of 500 during her stay at Lourdes ... the Gray Wolves have committed more turnovers than their opponents in every game but one this season ... Lourdes is looking for back-to-back wins for the first time since winning three straight games Oct. 30-Nov. 3, 2014.
