Upcoming in Gray Wolves Soccer: Lourdes takes to the road for the first time in 2016 on Thursday evening, traveling to Andrews for a non-conference match. The Gray Wolves look to remain unbeaten during the early portion of the season.
Head Coach Barry Spitzer: In his second season on the Lourdes bench,
Barry Spitzer has an 8-7-2 (.529) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves as well as a men's soccer collegiate head coach at four year programs. He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Lourdes and Andrews are meeting on the pitch for the first time ever in men's soccer on Thursday.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Judah Goodridge scored twice and
Carlos Viganoni added another goal as Lourdes opened its season on Saturday with a 3-1 victory over Grace Bible at Wildcat Stadium. After waiting out a three-hour weather delay, the Gray Wolves scored twice in the opening 20 minutes on the way to the win.
Scouting Andrews: The Cardinals have dropped a pair of contests to open the season after a 9-2 setback to Calumet College of Saint Joseph on Tuesday night after falling 7-0 to Trinity Christian in the opener. Andrews in the in the midst of a four-match homestand to open the year.
Starting Late: Lourdes had to wait three extra hours to open its 2016 season on Saturday. Strong thunderstorms rolled into Northwest Ohio less than a half hour before kickoff, forcing the stadium to be evacuated until they had passed.
Double the Fun: The victory over Grace Bible marked the first opponent in program history that Lourdes has defeated more than once. The Gray Wolves defeated the Tigers 3-2 in overtime last season in the first match in program history.
Goodridge Becomes Fourth Multi-Goal Scorer: Judah Goodridge became just the fourth Gray Wolf in program history to score two goals in a match with his effort in the season opener. Goodridge scored just 8:37 into the match, the third fastest goal ever for the Gray Wolves, before adding an insurance tally in the 70th minute.
A Big Helper: Jake Kirchoff-Sleet became the first Lourdes player ever with two assists in a match, doing so in the victory over Grace Bible. The senior had a helper on the match-winner in the first half before also assisting on a second half tally. Kirchoff-Sleet is the Gray Wolves' career assist leader with six in his two seasons wearing the terra cotta and black.
Quick Goals: Judah Goodridge and
Carlos Viganoni scored just 11:01 apart in the first half of the match against Grace Bible, marking the fastest two-goal span in program history. Goodridge and
Jake Kirchoff-Sleet previously had the quickest two goals, scoring 12:11 apart against Walsh on Sept. 5, 2015.
Sharing Time in Goal: Jose Cedillo earned the start in goal in the season opener against Grace Bible, and made a save on the only shot he faced.
Andre White played the final 45 minutes, making one stop while also surrendering a goal.
Looking for Two Straight: Lourdes won back-to-back matches just twice in its inaugural season, but will look to do just that on Thursday against Andrews. The Gray Wolves will attempt to move two games over the .500 mark for the first time in program history with a win.
Lots of First Time Experience: Lourdes had nine players make their Gray Wolf debut on Saturday against Grace Bible.
