Season's Longest Homestand Begins This Week for Women's Basketball

Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: Lourdes begins is second to last, and longest, homestand of the season this week with a pair of games at the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.  The Gray Wolves welcome Aquinas to town on Wednesday evening before entertaining Marygrove on Saturday afternoon in a pair of games that could have major postseason implications for each team.

Head Coach Summer Quesenberry: In her first season on the Lourdes bench Summer Quesenberry has a 5-15 (.250) record.  Overall as a women's collegiate head coach, Quesenberry has a 58-83 (.411) record in her fifth season.  She is the third head coach in Lourdes program's history.

Series Notes: Aquinas leads the all-time series against Lourdes 11-0 dating back to Nov. 30, 2011.  The Saints won the previous meeting this season 82-50 on Nov. 16 in Grand Rapids, Mich.  Aquinas went 3-0 against the Gray Wolves at Tam-o-Shanter, winning the other two Lourdes "home" games at the Stroh Center and at Owens CC.  Lourdes leads the all-time series with Marygrove 9-1 dating back to Nov. 2, 2011, and has won nine straight meetings between the two teams.  The Gray Wolves posted a 77-49 victory in Detroit, Mich. earlier this year on Dec. 3.  Lourdes posted a 4-0 record against Marygrove in games played at Tam-o-Shanter.

Earlier This Season: Aquinas jumped out to a 49-30 lead at halftime on Nov. 16 and defeated Lourdes 82-50 in Grand Rapids, Mich.  The Gray Wolves were without a double figure scorer, shooting just 28.1% from the floor for the game.  Elayna Ackerman, Jesse Fidler, and Kalena Harris all led Lourdes with eight points each while Ackerman also pulled down 10 rebounds.  Hannah Brefeld led three Saints in double figures with 19 points, making 8-of-11 shots from the floor.  On Dec. 3 Fidler scored 21 points for Lourdes as the Gray Wolves defeated Marygrove 77-49 in Detroit, Mich.  All 10 Lourdes players that dressed scored in the contest and the Gray Wolves forced 32 Marygrove turnovers.  Charlika Stubbs led the Mustangs with 13 points.

Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes fell behind Siena Heights 37-17 at halftime on Wednesday evening and was unable to recover, suffering a 68-43 home defeat to the Saints.  Molea Thompson led the Gray Wolves with 10 points as Lourdes shot just 25% from the floor on the night.  On Saturday afternoon Michigan-Dearborn broke open a tie game with a 23-point fourth quarter to defeat the Gray Wolves 70-56 in Dearborn, Mich.  Kalena Harris led Lourdes with 13 points off of the bench while Daja Whiteside tallied a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Scouting Aquinas: The Saints had their four-game winning streak snapped on Saturday afternoon with a 71-63 loss at home against sixth-ranked Davenport.  Hannah Brefeld leads Aquinas averaging 12.3 points per game and is shooting 58.5% from the floor while Bri Spica adds 10.1 points per night.  The Saints are shooting 37.8% from the field as a team, including just 30.3% from three-point range.

Scouting Marygrove: The Mustangs enter the week having dropped four straight games after suffering a 69-60 setback at Northwestern Ohio on Saturday.  Marygrove hosts Cornerstone on Wednesday before visiting Lourdes.  Elisha Major leads the Mustangs averaging 17.3 points per game while Kadesha Taylor adds 8.5 points per night.  Marygrove is shooting just 31.4% from the floor and 26.7% from three-point range on the year.

A Big Week Ahead: As the season moves into the final five weeks, Lourdes finds itself currently three games out of the final WHAC tournament position with 10 games to play.  However, the Gray Wolves have a big opportunity this week to make up ground.  The Gray Wolves, currently 10th in the league standings with the top-eight qualifying for the postseason, host Aquinas, the team directly above them in the ledger on Wednesday before entertaining 12th place Marygrove on Saturday.

Whiteside Registers Fourth Double-Double: Daja Whiteside posted her team-leading fourth double-double of the year on Saturday at Michigan-Dearborn with 11 points and 10 rebounds.  It was the senior's first double-double since Nov. 30 against Madonna, and the 10th double-double by a Gray Wolf this season.

Mixing Up the Lineup: Lourdes has used numerous combinations for the starting lineup this season.  Last Wednesday against Siena Heights, Payton Ramey and Lindsey Motycka both made their first starts of the year.  All 11 Gray Wolves that have seen action this season have now made at least one start this year, and not one player has started all 20 contests.

Among the Nation's Leaders: Lourdes ranks ninth among all NAIA Division II teams averaging 16.30 offensive rebounds per game.  The Gray Wolves are also 30th nationally with 10.50 steals per game, while ranking 39th grabbing 40.70 rebounds per night per night.  Lourdes also ranks 35th in the country holding opponents to just 28.7% shooting from three-point range.
 
Individuals in the National Leaders: Daja Whiteside ranks 18th among all NAIA Division II players averaging 3.55 offensive rebounds per game.  Whiteside is also 29th nationally shooting 82.3% from the free throw line.  Jesse Fidler ranks 24th in offensive rebounding, pulling down 3.30 offensive caroms per night.  Fidler is also 45th in the country shooting 46.5% from the floor.

This and That: Jesse Fidler needs just 37 points for 900 in her career ... Lourdes does not have any players averaging 30 or more minutes per game, but all 10 players are averaging at least 12 minutes of action per night ... the Gray Wolves are forcing 19.7 turnovers per contest.
