Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: After winning its final game of 2016, Lourdes looks to open the 2017 calendar year on a positive note, returning to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play for a pair of road tests. The Gray Wolves head to Northwestern Ohio on Wednesday night before traveling to Lawrence Tech for a Saturday afternoon matinee.
Head Coach Summer Quesenberry: In her first season on the Lourdes bench
Summer Quesenberry has a 5-11 (.313) record. Overall as a women's collegiate head coach, Quesenberry has a 58-79 (.423) record in her fifth season. She is the third head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Northwestern Ohio holds a 9-1 series advantage against Lourdes dating back to Jan. 18, 2012. Last season, the Racers notched a 67-45 victory over the Gray Wolves at Tam-o-Shanter before Lourdes returned the favor in Lima, Ohio, downing Northwestern Ohio 59-53 to end a nine-game losing skid in the series. All-time, UNOH holds a 4-1 series edge in games played in Lima. Lawrence Tech holds a 5-3 series lead over the Gray Wolves dating back to Nov. 17, 2012. Last year the Blue Devils posted an 83-60 win at Tam-o-Shanter before downing the Gray Wolves 63-48 in Southfield, Mich. Lawrence Tech is 3-1 against Lourdes in Southfield over the years.
Wrapping Up Last Week (or Two Weeks Ago): Trailing by four points at halftime on Dec. 20, Lourdes held Carlow to just five third quarter points and rallied to defeat the Celtics 80-65 at the Ebeid Rec Center.Â
Jesse Fidler led four Gray Wolves in double figures with 18 points while
Kalena Harris added 15 points.Â
Daja Whiteside tallied 13 points and
Payton Ramey chipped in 10 more as four Lourdes players finished in double figures.
Scouting Northwestern Ohio: The Racers enter the new year having dropped back-to-back contests to Ottawa (Kan.) and Wayland Baptist at the Las Vegas Hoopla before Christmas. Sogona Sidibe is the only Northwestern Ohio player averaging in double figures, scoring 10.9 points per game, while Shatisha Dukes adds 8.5 points per night. The Racers are shooting 40.1% from the field.
Scouting Lawrence Tech: The Blue Devils begin the week having dropped their final game before the holiday break, 67-56, on the road at Saint Francis (Ind.). Lawrence Tech heads to Indiana Tech on Wednesday before hosting Lourdes. Nicole Buckingham leads the Blue Devils averaging 16.9 points per game and is the lone player tallying double figures offensively. Kaitlyn Smith adds 9.8 points per night. As a team the Blue Devils are shooting 41.3% from the floor and holding opponents to just 57.2 points per contest.
Looking to Open the New Year with a Win: Lourdes looks to do something on Wednesday night it has done just once in its program history, and that is open the new calendar year with a victory. The Gray Wolves defeated Marygrove 66-37 on Jan. 4, 2014, the only time in five previous times January began with a win.
A Second Half Rally: Lourdes rebounded from a four-point halftime deficit to defeat Carlow in its last outing. The win marked the first time this season (in 10 tries) the Gray Wolves had bounced back from a halftime deficit to win a contest.
76 the Magic Number: Lourdes has found that 76 points is its magic number this season. The Gray Wolves have won all five games in which it has reached 76 points, while going 0-11 when failing to reach the threshold.
Taking Care of the Basketball: Lourdes turned the ball over just 14 times in the victory over Carlow on Dec. 20, its fewest miscues of the season. Previously, the Gray Wolves had committed 15 turnovers at Marygrove for its season-best mark. Overall, Lourdes is averaging 21.2 turnovers per contest on the year.
Rebounding a Key: Lourdes has yet to win a game this season when being outrebounded by the opposition (0-8). The Gray Wolves have had success when winning the battle of the boards though, posting a 5-3 record. Overall on the year Lourdes is being outrebounded by 1.9 boards per contest, or 30 total rebounds.
Filling the Stat Sheet: Kalena Harris did a little bit of everything in the victory over Carlow. The freshman guard scored 15 points while pulling down a career-high eight rebounds. Harris also handed out four assists and registered four steals in the win.
Among the Nation's Leaders: Lourdes ranks seventh among all NAIA Division II teams averaging 16.75 offensive rebounds per game. The Gray Wolves are also 20th nationally pulling down 42.50 rebounds per game, while ranking 26th tallying 11.00 steals per night.

Individuals in the National Leaders: Daja Whiteside ranks 10th among all NAIA Division II players averaging 3.75 offensive rebounds per game.Â
Jesse Fidler ranks 19th in that same category, pulling down 3.44 offensive caroms per night. Fidler is also 41st in the country shooting 48.1% from the floor.
Captains Named: Lourdes has a trio of captains heading into the 2016-2017 season.Â
Jesse Fidler is serving as a captain for her second straight season while
Sara Pribonic and
Andrea Hodge are in their first year in the leadership role.
