Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: The 2016-2017 basketball season comes to an end this week for Lourdes University as the Gray Wolves take to the road for their final two contests. Lourdes heads to Madonna on Wednesday evening before concluding the season on Saturday night against nationally-ranked Siena Heights.
Head Coach Summer Quesenberry: In her first season on the Lourdes bench
Summer Quesenberry has a 7-21 (.250) record. Overall as a women's collegiate head coach, Quesenberry has a 60-89 (.403) record in her fifth season. She is the third head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Madonna leads the all-time series against Lourdes 10-1 dating back to Jan. 11, 2012. However, the Gray Wolves posted their first victory in the series earlier this season on Nov. 30, 80-73, at the Ebeid Rec Center. The Crusaders are 5-0 against Lourdes in the Activities Center. Siena Heights has won all 11 previous meetings against the Gray Wolves dating back to Dec. 3, 2011. The Saints posted a 68-43 win back on Jan. 11 at the Ebeid Rec Center in the first meeting of the year. Siena Heights is 5-0 against Lourdes in Adrian, Mich.
Earlier This Season: Daja Whiteside and
Taylor Geib both recorded double-doubles on Nov. 30 as Lourdes posted an 80-73 victory over Madonna at the Ebeid Rec Center. Whiteside scored 20 points and had 10 boards while Geib added 14 points and 15 rebounds. Michele Hayes led Madonna with 25 points in the loss. Siena Heights held Lourdes to just 25% shooting on Jan. 11 at the Ebeid Rec Center and defeated the Gray Wolves 68-43.Â
Molea Thompson was the lone Gray Wolf to post double figures, scoring 10 points, while April Watson posted 19 points and 16 boards for the Saints.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes rallied from an eight-point deficit heading into the final quarter by scoring 31 points in the fourth and defeated Northwestern Ohio 81-78 on Wednesday night.Â
Molea Thompson paced the Gray Wolves with 22 points in the win. The Gray Wolves led by five at halftime on Saturday against Lawrence Tech but the Blue Devils rallied for a 77-63 victory.Â
Elayna Ackerman led Lourdes with 15 points in the setback.
Scouting Madonna: The Crusaders snapped a two-game losing skid on Saturday with an 88-60 victory over Michigan-Dearborn. Michele Hayes leads four Madonna players in double figures, tallying 18.9 points per game. She also ranks fifth nationally handing out 5.3 assists per night. Becca Sabol adds 16.1 points and a team-high 10.2 rebounds per contest. Madonna ranks 17th in the country as a team scoring 78.36 points per outing.
Scouting Siena Heights: The Saints enter the week having won four straight games and 10 of their last 11 overall following an 82-75 victory over Marygrove on Saturday. Siena Heights hosts Davenport on Wednesday night before entertaining Lourdes. April Watson leads the Saints averaging 19.1 points and 10.5 rebounds per game on the year. As a team Siena Heights is ninth in the country outrebounding teams by 9.2 boards per night.
Looking to Match Last Year's Win Total: A victory in either of the final two games of the season will allow the Gray Wolves to match last season's win total of eight, something also accomplished in 2014-2015. Two wins this week would match the school record for victories, nine, set by the 2012-2013 squad.
One Final Ranked Opponent: Lourdes will face its sixth NAIA Division II top-25 opponent of the season on Saturday to conclude the campaign. The Gray Wolves are just 1-31 all-time against ranked foes, dropping 30 straight games since a 79-75 victory over Indiana-Northwest on Nov. 5, 2011.
Only Losing Two: Lourdes has just two seniors on this year's squad.Â
Daja Whiteside and
Mariah DuPree were honored last Saturday for Senior Day and will be wrapping up their collegiate careers this weekend.
76 is the Magic Number: The Gray Wolves have scored at least 76 points in every victory this season. In fact, Lourdes has not dropped a single contest this year when reaching the magic number.
Closing In On Milestones: Jesse Fidler enters the week needing just 37 points to reach 1,000 for her career. The Gray Wolf junior has scored 963 points in her first three years. Fidler is also just 10 rebounds shy of 600 during her stay at Lourdes.
Among the Nation's Leaders: Lourdes ranks eighth among all NAIA Division II teams averaging 16.29 offensive rebounds per game. The Gray Wolves are also 31st nationally pulling down 40.96 total rebounds per contest. In addition, Lourdes ranks 30th in the country tallying 10.54 steals per night and is 49th holding opponents to just 30.1% shooting from three-point range.
Â

Daja Whiteside ranks 28th among all NAIA Division II players averaging 3.32 offensive rebounds per game. Â
This and That: Molea Thompson surpassed 600 career points last weekend, and enters play Wednesday with 614 over her three years ... the win against Northwestern Ohio was just the second this year after trailing at halftime, and the first on the season when being outrebounded in a game.
