Five-Game Road Trip Begins Wednesday to Open Men's Lacrosse Season

Upcoming in Gray Wolves Lacrosse: Lourdes opens its fourth season of men's lacrosse on Wednesday evening as the Gray Wolves head north to battle Cleary inside of the Legacy Center in Brighton, Mich.  Lourdes will then head south on Monday to continue its five-game season-opening road trip with a visit to SCAD-Savannah, the first stop on the annual spring trip.  

Head Coach Patrick Yannarelli: In his third season on the Lourdes bench, Patrick Yannarelli has a 31-15 (.674) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves.  Yannarelli was named the NAIA National Coach of the Year in 2016.  He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.

Series Notes: Lourdes is 1-0 all-time against Cleary after defeating the Cougars 18-5 to open last season on Feb. 27, 2016 in Brighton, Mich.  The Gray Wolves scored nine times in the opening quarter on the way to a 15-2 halftime lead.  Lourdes has never met SCAD-Savannah on the lacrosse field.

Wrapping Up Last Season: The Gray Wolves finished 2016 with a 16-5 record overall and a 4-1 mark in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference, finishing in second place in the league standings.  The Gray Wolves advanced to the NAIA National Invitational semifinals before falling to eventual national champion Davenport 23-11.  

Scouting Cleary: The Cougars suffered a forfeit loss to Montreat to open their 2017 season.  Cleary went 3-7 in 2016, finishing the year with back-to-back victories over Schoolcraft and Northwood.  

Scouting SCAD-Savannah: The Bees are a perfect 4-0 to start the season after defeating SUNY Delhi 11-9 on Sunday afternoon.  SCAD will host Saint Andrews on Saturday before entertaining Lourdes.  Jack Cioffi leads the Bees with 12 goals and six assists for 18 total points this year while Griffin Hunt has added six goals.  Connor Goonan has played a majority of the time in goal, sporting a .571 save percentage.

All-American Returns: Dalton Vowles was named a First Team NAIA All-American last season and returns for his senior season with the Gray Wolves.  Vowles scored 80 goals and had 124 points one year ago, and enters this year with 106 career goals and 162 career points.

Career Scoring Leader: Jared Yoshino begins his senior season as Lourdes' career assists and points leader.  Yoshino has 144 career assists and 274 career points.  His 130 career goals are 39 shy of the school's all-time record.

Mishler Returns in Goal: Conner Mishler enters his senior season in goal having made 401 career saves.  The Gray Wolf netminder has a 10.29 career goals against average and a .535 save percentage with 26 victories.

Captains: Jared Yoshino, Nic Mueller, and Jaafar Ismail will serve as the Gray Wolf captains in 2017.  Yoshino is a three-time captain while Ismail and Mueller are in their first season serving in the leadership role.

This and That: Lourdes opens the season ranked second in the preseason NAIA top-10 poll ... there are 16 new faces on this year's Gray Wolf roster ... Jared Yoshino is the team's career ground ball leader with 201 ... Nic Mueller enters the season having won 203 career faceoffs at a 55.6% rate.
