Upcoming in Gray Wolves Baseball: After five months off, Lourdes returns to the diamond this weekend to begin the spring portion of its schedule. The Gray Wolves head south for the annual spring trip and will play 11 games, beginning with contests at Cumberland on Friday and Saturday. Lourdes then heads to Georgia where the Gray Wolves will face Indiana Wesleyan in a four-game neutral-site series before playing a single game against Reinhardt Wednesday afternoon.
Head Coach Jeremy Snow: In his second season on the Lourdes bench,
Jeremy Snow has a 16-44 (.267) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves, as well as in his career as a collegiate head coach. He is the second head coach in Lourdes program's history, and interim tag removed from his title during the offseason.
Probable Starters: Colin Gottschalk (RHP, 0-0, 2.25) and
Ben Richard (RHP, 0-1, 4.00) will be handed the baseball for the two games against Cumberland.Â
Zach Brown (RHP) will make his first appearance on the hill in the opener against Indiana Wesleyan while
Matt York (RHP, 0-3, 4.26) and
Kolby Rogge (RHP, 1-2, 3.94) will pitch Tuesday's doubleheader. Wednesday's starter against both Indiana Wesleyan and Reinhardt have yet to be determined.
Series Notes: Lourdes has never faced Cumberland, Indiana Wesleyan, or Reinhardt on the baseball diamond.
Wrapping Up Last Week (or Five Months Ago): Lourdes won one of three games against Marygrove to wrap up the fall portion of its schedule Oct. 8-9. The Mustangs won the opener 5-3 before the Gray Wolves rebounded with a 7-1 win in game two of the doubleheader. In the series finale, Marygrove scored a 5-2 win.Â
Noah Childress had five hits in the weekend series.

Scouting Indiana Wesleyan: The Wildcats enter the weekend having dropped three of four at Bethel (Tenn.) last weekend. Indiana Wesleyan also plays two against Cumberland this weekend before facing Lourdes. Andrew Breytenbach leads the Wildcats batting .391 with three homers and 18 RBI. As a team Indiana Wesleyan is hitting .293 while the pitching staff sports a 5.21 ERA and opponents are batting .282 against them.
Scouting Reinhardt: The Eagles enter the weekend having won three of their last four games after downing Morehouse 10-1 on Tuesday. Reinhardt still faces Martin Methodist and Bluefield for three games before hosting Lourdes. Christian Trejos leads the Eagles with a .533 batting average while Daniel Rodriguez is hitting .435 with four home runs and 20 RBI. As a team Reinhardt is hitting .335 while the pitching staff sports a 1.89 ERA and opponents are hitting just .214 against them.
Rogge Earns First Victory: Kolby Rogge earned his first collegiate victory in his final outing of the fall, tossing seven innings of four-hit baseball against Marygrove in a 7-1 win. He allowed just one unearned run and did not walk anyone while striking out five. Rogge enters the spring with a 3.94 earned run average in his three starts.
Childress Raises Average: Noah Childress had a big final series during the fall against Marygrove, raising his season average 67 points to .257. The freshman had a pair of multi-hit games against the Mustangs, including a three-hit effort in the series opener which included a double. Â

A New Look to the WHAC: The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference has several new looks in 2017. For the first time, fall baseball was contested, with each member school playing three regular season three-game series which will count toward the year-end record. In addition, each conference series has been shortened from four games to three this year, but all three contests will be scheduled for nine innings. Finally, there are two new additions to WHAC baseball. Lawrence Tech is playing baseball for the first time while Rochester (Mich.) joins the conference as an affiliate member for baseball only.
This and That: Lourdes pinch hitters were 5-for-12 (.417) during the fall ...
George Pastor,
Glen Crabtree, and
Zach Brown all have three-game hitting streaks entering the weekend ... Pastor is the lone Gray Wolf with more than one multi-RBI game while
Noah Childress had three multi-hit contests.
