Games #21-23: vs. Madonna (12-10, 5-3 WHAC)
Friday, March 24, 12 p.m. EDT (DH)
Saturday, March 25, 11 a.m. EDT
Mercy Field - Toledo, Ohio

Upcoming in Gray Wolves Baseball: After moving up one spot in the league standings after winning last weekend's Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference series, Lourdes looks to continue climbing the ladder this weekend, hosting Madonna in a three-game set.  The series will now be played Friday and Saturday due to the potential for inclement weather on the weekend.

Head Coach Jeremy Snow: In his second season on the Lourdes bench, Jeremy Snow has a 21-50 (.296) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves, as well as in his career as a collegiate head coach.  He is the second head coach in Lourdes program's history, and interim tag removed from his title during the offseason.

Probable Starters: In Friday's doubleheader against Madonna, Colin Gottschalk (RHP, 1-0, 6.92) and Kolby Rogge (RHP, 2-2, 4.68) are slated to toe the rubber.  Matt York (RHP, 1-3, 4.18) will take the hill on Saturday in the series finale against the Crusaders.

Series Notes: Madonna holds an 18-1 all-time series advantage against Lourdes, dating back to March 3, 2012.  The Crusaders swept a four-game series against Lourdes last season in Livonia, Mich., winning by scores of 7-2, 3-0, 11-0, and 6-3.  Madonna has won 10 straight games in the series, with the lone Gray Wolf win coming on April 11, 2014, a 9-4 triumph.  The Crusaders have won all seven previous games played at Mercy Field.

Wrapping Up Last Week: Taylor scored five runs in the first four innings last Wednesday (March 16) and defeated the Gray Wolves 5-1 in Upland, Ind.  Kevin Suttles drove home the lone Lourdes run.  Saturday the Gray Wolves opened the series with Lawrence Tech, dropping a 12-10 decision in 13 innings.  Glen Crabtree homered and drove home three runs to pace the Gray Wolf offense.   Lourdes swept Sunday's doubleheader against the Blue Devils winning 14-8 and 10-1.  In the opener Crabtree went 6-for-6 while Dallas Riggs and Zach Brown each had three hits.  Matt York went seven strong innings, allowing just one hit in the nightcap to help the Gray Wolves earn the sweep.

Scouting Madonna: The Crusaders have won two straight games entering the weekend end series, but been idle since March 11 when Madonna downed Georgia Gwinnett 14-7 on the road.  As a team the Crusaders are batting .306, led by Taylor Grzelakowski's .450 clip.  Grzelakowski also has a team-leading six home runs and 33 runs batted in.  Frankie Lucska is hitting .397 with 16 RBI.  The Madonna pitching staff sports a 5.97 earned run average while opponents are hitting .297 against the Crusaders.  Johno Rodriguez has a team-high seven starts, a 4-2 record, and a 5.70 ERA.  Cliff Landess has come out of the bullpen a team-leading 11 times, sporting a 2-1 record with four saves and a 1.69 earned run average.

Schedule Updates: Lourdes's doubleheader against Shawnee State slated for Wednesday was cancelled and will not be made up this season.  In addition, this weekend's series has been moved up from Saturday-Sunday to Friday-Saturday in an attempt to beat the rain.  The doubleheader will be played Friday at noon with a single game slated for Saturday at 11 a.m.

Swinging a Hot Bat: Glen Crabtree had quite the series against Lawrence Tech last weekend.  The sophomore batted .571 (8-for-14) with two home runs and a double.  He also drove home five runs while scoring six.  Crabtree entered the series batting just .196 on the year, but raised his average 81 points to .277 following the weekend.

Bats Came Alive: Lourdes banged out 41 hits and batted .339 as a team in the three-game series against the Blue Devils.  Twelve different Gray Wolves had hits on the weekend.  In addition to Glen Crabtree's eight hits, Zach Brown and Dallas Riggs each batted .500 or better with six hits each.

York Earns Season's First Win: Matt York picked up his first victory of the season on Saturday, tossing seven innings of six-hit baseball.  The junior right-hander allowed just one run while striking out three, lowering his earned run average to 4.18 for the year.

Solid Defensively: Lourdes has done a solid job flashing the leather this season, committing just 26 errors.  The Gray Wolves have posted a .964 fielding percentage, a mark that currently ranks 23rd among all NAIA schools.  Lourdes has improved defensively after recording marks of .951, .950, and .941 over the previous three years respectively.

Streaking: Several Lourdes hitters have lengthy on base streaks active entering the weekend.  Dallas Riggs has reached base safely in 13 straight games dating back to Marygrove on Oct. 8.  In addition, Kyle Sherman and Jay Denman have streaks of nine and eight straight games respectively going.

Streaking Part Two: George Pastor has the team's longest active hitting streak going entering the Madonna series.  Pastor has hit safely in four straight games.  Pastor also leads the Gray Wolves with six multi-hit games and six multi-RBI contests this season.

This and That: Dallas Riggs is the lone Gray Wolf to appear in all 20 games this season ... with the Shawnee State games being cancelled, the shortened six-game homestand still matches the longest this season ... Lourdes is now 1-1 this season in extra inning affairs and 9-9 all-time when extending the game beyond regulation.
