Head Coach Jeremy Snow: In his second season on the Lourdes bench,
Jeremy Snow has a 21-53 (.284) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves, as well as in his career as a collegiate head coach. He is the second head coach in Lourdes program's history, and interim tag removed from his title during the offseason.
Probable Starters: Matt York (RHP, 1-4, 4.45) is slated to be handed the baseball to open the doubleheader against Northwestern Ohio on Saturday. The Gray Wolves have not announced their starters for the final two games of the weekend series.
Series Notes: Northwestern Ohio holds a 14-2 all-time series advantage against Lourdes dating back to March 28, 2012. The Racers have won four straight meetings between the two schools after sweeping all four games last year, two in Lima, Ohio and two and Mercy Field. Northwestern Ohio holds a 9-1 series advantage in games played in Lima.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes scored nine times over the final three innings in game one of Saturday's doubleheader, but came up three runs short, falling to Madonna 14-11.Â
Glen Crabtree went 4-for-5 with three runs batted in during game one. In the nightcap Madonna banged out 21 hits while registering a 16-4 triumph.Â
Devin Stanley had a 3-for-3 game with a pair of RBI for the Gray Wolves. In Sunday's series finale, Madonna posted a 5-2 victory over Lourdes to complete the weekend sweep.Â
Reilly Walters had two hits in the loss for the Gray Wolves.
Scouting Northwestern Ohio: The Racers have won six straight games following a three-game sweep of Rochester (Mich.) last weekend at home. Jeff Cardenas leads the team with a .419 batting average, and has hit five home runs while adding 42 runs batted in. As a team Northwestern Ohio is hitting .354, a mark that ranks sixth in NAIA. Damon Proctor leads the starting rotation, sporting a 7-0 record with a 1.92 earned run average. As a staff, Racer pitching carries a 3.56 ERA.
Facing Ranked Foes: Lourdes is playing its second NAIA top-25 program of the season this weekend. Earlier this year the Gray Wolves dropped a 6-3 decision to 24th-ranked Reinhardt on the road. Lourdes is 2-25 all-time against ranked opponents, having dropped seven straight since a 6-3 win at 23rd-ranked Northwestern Ohio on April 1, 2015 in game two of a doubleheader.
Stanley Enjoying Return to WHAC Play: Devin Stanley's bat has heated up since the Gray Wolves resumed WHAC play March 18 against Lawrence Tech. Over the last six games the redshirt-sophomore has hit safely in each game, with three multi-hit contests including a three-hit game last weekend against Madonna. During the stretch Stanley is 10-for-20 (.500), raising his season average 96 points to a team-leading .346. Â
Walters Delivers Hits: Reilly Walters entered last weekend with just one hit in his first 19 at bats spanning 11 games. The freshman entered game one on Saturday as a defensive replacement, and finished with two hits. He added two more hits in the series finale, finishing the weekend 4-for-8 and raising his average 132 points.
Falling Behind Early: Lourdes has surrendered 168 total runs this season, 104 of which have come in the game's first five innings. During four of the five frames the Gray Wolves have allowed at least 20 runs on the year, including 35 in the fourth inning alone.
Crabtree with Two Three-RBI Games: Glen Crabtree had his second three-RBI game of the season in game one last Saturday against Madonna. The sophomore went 4-for-5 in the game to finish a stretch of four straight games in which he batted 12-for-19 (.632) with eight runs batted in during the span.
Walking Man: Jay Denman has drawn 18 of the 88 free passes issued to Lourdes hitters this season. While Denman is batting .271 on the year, when you add in his walks and the four times he has been hit by a pitch, the freshman has posted a .500 on base percentage.
Beginning to Produce Runs: Lourdes struggled to score runs during the nine games played in the fall, but the Gray Wolf offense has picked up since the calendar year changed. Lourdes has scored 83 runs in the 14 games this spring after tallying just 22 in the nine fall contests, while hitting at a .258 clip.
Zsolcsak Solid This Spring: Zack Zsolcsak has made the most of his final spring season. The senior has made seven appearances on the hill since March, logging 10 innings. Zsolcsak is 1-0 with a 0.90 earned run average, striking out seven and limiting the opposition to just a .118 batting average during the span.
This and That: Dallas Riggs is the lone Gray Wolf to appear in all 23 games this season ... Lourdes is 20-for-24 in stolen base attempts this spring after going 11-for-18 during the fall portion of the schedule ... with
