Upcoming in Gray Wolves Lacrosse: Postseason play begins on Wednesday evening for Lourdes as the Gray Wolves travel to Lawrence Tech for a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference tournament semifinal contest. The Gray Wolves enter the tournament having won four straight games.
Head Coach Patrick Yannarelli: In his third season on the Lourdes bench,
Patrick Yannarelli has a 41-17 (.707) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. Yannarelli was named the NAIA National Coach of the Year in 2016. He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Lourdes is 4-1 all-time against Lawrence Tech dating back to April 2, 2014. The Blue Devils won this season's earlier meeting against the Gray Wolves, 17-11, on April 1, 2017. The first meeting was the only time the two schools have played at the LTU Athletic Field.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes tallied three victories to close the regular season, beginning with a 12-10 win at Michigan-Dearborn on Wednesday as
Jared Yoshino scored six goals. The Gray Wolves stepped out of WHAC play on Friday morning, downing SUNY Delhi 13-6, yielding just one second half tally. On Saturday night, Lourdes resumed a suspended contest with Siena Heights, and defeated the Saints 10-9 on Yoshino's game-winning goal in overtime.
Scouting Lawrence Tech: The Blue Devils shared the WHAC regular season title with Indiana Tech, but fell in the final game of the regular season to the Warriors 19-16 at home on April 5. Tristan Burkhard leads Lawrence Tech with 48 goals and 23 assists for 71 total points this season while Tim Popp has added 50 goals and 15 points. In goal, Jacob Sacdalan played every minutes, and sports a 10.90 goals against average and a .414 save percentage.
Lourdes in the WHAC Tournament: The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference is holding a postseason tournament for the first time in 2017. Previously, the teams would play scrimmage contests in the fall, and then play a positional game in the spring. Lourdes defeated Lawrence Tech 16-9 in 2014 and fell to Siena Heights in 2015.
Yoshino Becomes Career Goals Leader: Jared Yoshino became the Gray Wolves' career goal-scoring leader, passing
Danny Bichsel's (2014-2016) 169 career tallies. Yoshino enter the WHAC tournament with 172 goals in four years while also holding the assist (169) and points (341) record at the school.
Record-Setting Pace: Austin Burger has won 63.8% (60-of-94) of his faceoffs this season, and is on pace to break
Marty Gospodarski's 2016 single season record of 57.6% (minimum 40 faceoffs taken).
Among the Nation's Leaders: As a team Lourdes ranks seventh in NAIA averaging 13.17 goals per game. The Gray Wolves are also eighth in shots on goal per contest (23.08) and ninth in shots per game (37.75). Individually,
Jared Yoshino is seventh in assists per game at 2.08 and ninth in points per game at 5.58.
Road Success: Lourdes is 6-2 in true road games this season and 20-9 all-time in program history playing on the opposition's home field.
