Lourdes Takes to the Road to Face Aquinas This Weekend

Upcoming in Gray Wolves Baseball: Lourdes concludes a five-game road trip this weekend as the Gray Wolves travel to Grand Rapids, Mich.  Lourdes will battle Aquinas in a three-game weekend series beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday.

Head Coach Jeremy Snow: In his second season on the Lourdes bench, Jeremy Snow has a 23-64 (.264) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves, as well as in his career as a collegiate head coach.  He is the second head coach in Lourdes program's history, and interim tag removed from his title during the offseason.

Probable Starters: Lourdes has yet to announce its starting rotation for any of the three games at Aquinas this weekend.

Series Notes: Aquinas leads the all-time series against Lourdes 11-5 dating back to April 21, 2012.  The two teams split a pair of games in Grand Rapids, Mich. last season with the Saints winning 1-0 in game one and the Gray Wolves winning the second contest 2-1 in the nightcap.  Aquinas holds a 5-1 series edge in games played at Kimble Stadium and a 6-3 advantage overall in games played in Grand Rapids.

Wrapping Up Last Week: Concordia (Mich.) scored seven times in the fourth inning on Thursday and defeated Lourdes 12-1 to open the three-game series.  Dallas Riggs went 3-for-3 for the Gray Wolves in the loss.  In Saturday's doubleheader against the Cardinals, Concordia scored multiple runs in four of the nine innings to defeat the Gray Wolves 16-7 in game one.  Riggs went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs batted in.  Lourdes rallied from a 7-3 deficit in the final game of the series, but came up one run short, falling to Concordia 9-8 in game two of the doubleheader.  Riggs was 3-for-4 while Cameron Gallo had four runs batted in.  On Monday, Goshen scored twice in the fifth and once in the sixth to record a 7-6 win over the Gray Wolves.  Jan Denman had three hits while Glen Crabtree drove home three runs.  Lourdes rebounded in game two for a 6-4 victory over Goshen.  Devin Stanley and Reilly Walters each had two hits in the triumph.

Scouting Aquinas: The Saints have won two straight games, and four of their last five overall after sweeping Hope on Tuesday afternoon.  As a team Aquinas is batting .282 on the season, led by Sterling Brinker's .397 average.  Brinker also has four home runs and 32 runs batted in while Brenden Johnson is hitting at a .374 clip with five homers and 32 RBI.  The pitching staff sports a 6.58 earned run average and opponents are hitting .313 against them.  Jordan Wahr leads Aquinas pitchers with a 5-3 records and a 3.63 ERA.

Riggs Swinging a Hot Bat: Since the beginning of the Concordia (Mich.) series, Dallas Riggs has been swinging a hot bat.  The junior is hitting .526 (10-for-19) over the last five games with three doubles and six runs scored.  He has five runs batted in as well during the span.  Riggs has raised his batting average 41 points to .308, second best on the team.

Stanley Continues to Produce: Devin Stanley continues to lead the way offensively for Lourdes, batting .352 on the season.  He has been even better in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play, swinging at a .368 clip with 12 runs batted in.  In league play Stanley has registered a .439 on base percentage, and has not committed an error defensively.

Driving Home Runs: Cameron Gallo had his third multi-RBI game of his career against Concordia (Mich.) in the series finale last Saturday.  The freshman had two hits and four runs batted in, a new career high.

More Runs Batted In: Glen Crabtree has four multi-RBI games for the Gray Wolves this season, three of which have brought home three runners.  The sophomore is second on the team with 19 runs batted in after bringing home three runners in the opening game of the doubleheader at Goshen.

First Career Victory: Jeremy Zsolscak recorded his first career victory on Monday, tossing 1.2 innings of relief in the win at Goshen.  The Gray Wolf freshman is now 1-1 on the season having made 10 appearances while logging 21 innings on the hill.

Pulling Double Duty: Jay Denman has been busy as a freshman, playing both golf and baseball for the Gray Wolves.  The rookie has batted .286 in 27 games on the diamond with a home run and seven runs batted in.  He leads the team with a .450 on base percentage after drawing 19 walks on the year.  On the golf course, Denman has posted an 79.94 stroke average playing in all 13 events.  This weekend he will play in the series at Aquinas before traveling to Augusta, Mich. to compete in the WHAC men's golf championship which begins on Monday.

Coming off the Bench: Zach Brown has produced when called upon off of the bench.  The freshman is a perfect 6-for-6 in pinch-hitting opportunities on the year.  Overall Brown is hitting .290 with seven runs batted in.

This and That: Dallas Riggs is the lone Gray Wolf to appear in all 36 games this season ... Lourdes pinch hitters are batting .429 on the season ... Cameron Gallo enters the weekend having reached base safely in his last eight games ... Riggs and Devin Stanley each have 10 multi-hit games on the year.
