Box Score 2 Lourdes suffered a pair of setbacks on Wednesday afternoon at Mercy Field, as the Gray Wolves dropped a doubleheader to Cleary 10-0 and 7-6, with game two going eight innings.

In the opener, Rhett Holwerda went the distance, allowing just four baserunners to get the win (2-5). He allowed a one-out double to
Noah Childress (Toledo, Ohio/Start H.S.) in the fifth for Gray Wolves' first baserunner. An error and a hit batter loaded the bases in the frame, but Lourdes could not produce a run. Holwerda also allowed a one-out walk in the seventh. He struck out five on the afternoon.

Cleary jumped in front with a single run in the second on a single by Mickey Montpas, before adding four more in the third, sending 10 batters to the plate. Montpas, added two more RBI as the Cougars built a 5-0 lead. Three unearned runs in the fifth and two more tallies in the seventh allowed Cleary to earn the victory.

The Cougars tallied 12 hits against Lourdes pitching, with Nick Hoogerhyde going 3-for-4.Â
Liam Bloom (Swanton, Ohio/Swanton H.S.) suffered the loss (1-2), allowing five runs, five hits, and two walks in four innings.

The visitors plated two runs in the top of the second of game two, one unearned, to take the early lead. The Gray Wolves responded, tying the game in the bottom of the frame as
Reilly Walters (Bowmanville, Ont./Bowmanville H.S.) delivered a two-run single.

Cleary took advantage of a pair of walks in the third and scored three times, regaining the lead 5-2. Lourdes pulled within one, 5-4, in the fourth, on back-to-back singles by
Glen Crabtree (Median, Ohio/Black River H.S.) and
Cameron Gallo (Mason, Ohio/Bishop Fenwick H.S.).

A home run by
Dallas Riggs (Prescott, Ariz./Paradise Valley H.S.), his third of the season, tied the game at five in the fifth. Lourdes had a chance to win the game in the seventh, loading the bases with one out, but could not bring home a run.

Cleary plated two in the top of the seventh, utilizing two singles and three walks, to go in front. Lourdes tried to rally in the bottom of the inning. Childress singled home
Zak Laubscher (Twinsburg, Ohio/Twinsburg H.S.), but the potential tying run was thrown out at the plate. The Gray Wolves then loaded the bases with two outs, but again were unsuccessful knotting the game.

Childress had four hits, including a double, in the nightcap as part of a 14-hit attack, while Gallo, Riggs, and Walters each had two hits as well.

William Lovell led the Cougars' 11-hit effort with a 4-for-4 game, including three runs batted in.

Tyler Vaughan earned the win (1-1) on the mound for Cleary with two innings of scoreless relief while Briton Ott earned his first save of the season.Â
Mike Vomastek (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson H.S.) suffered the loss (0-1), coming on to pitch the eighth.

Lourdes (6-22) and Cleary (7-18-1) have postponed Thursday's doubleheader due to forecasted inclement weather. The Gray Wolves will return to action on Saturday against Siena Heights. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 1 p.m. at Mercy Field.
