Upcoming in Gray Wolves Lacrosse: Lourdes opens its fifth season of men's lacrosse on Wednesday evening as the Gray Wolves head north to battle Cleary inside the Legacy Center in Brighton, Mich. The game is the first of four straight road contests for the Gray Wolves to open the campaign.
Head Coach Patrick Yannarelli: In his fifth season on the Lourdes bench,
Patrick Yannarelli has a 43-18 (.705) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. Yannarelli was named the NAIA National Coach of the Year in 2016. He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Lourdes is 2-0 all-time against Cleary in a series that dates back to Feb. 27, 2016. The Gray Wolves won last year's meeting against the Cougars 21-3 after downing Cleary 18-5 in the initial meeting. Every match-up between the two schools has been played inside the Legacy Center.
Wrapping Up Last Season: The Gray Wolves finished 2017 with a 12-3 record overall and a 5-2 mark in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference, finishing in third place in the league standings. Lourdes won the WHAC tournament, defeating Aquinas 13-6 in the championship game. The Gray Wolves advanced to the NAIA National Invitational where they fell in the quarterfinals to Indiana Tech 13-12. Â
Scouting Cleary: The Cougars opened their 2018 season on Saturday evening, suffering a 33-0 loss to Indiana Tech at home. Peter Nichols had six shot attempts for Cleary while Cam Newton made 16 saves in goal. Â
All-Conference Selections Return: Ben LaPointe returns for his senior season after earning First Team All Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference honors on defense.Â
Casey Hilfinger garnered Second Team All-WHAC accolades in 2017, and is also back for his senior campaign.
Top Returning Scorers: D.J. Harris and
Tanner Jaramillo are the top returning scorers from 2017 for the Gray Wolves heading into the new campaign. Harris found the back of the cage 23 times and handed out eight assists for 31 total points while Jaramillo scored 21 times and finished with 26 points.Â
Drew Gilhooly and
Casey Hilfinger both finished with double figure goal totals as well, scoring 17 and 12 times respectively.
A New Look in Goal: After
Conner Mishler played 55 games in goal over the past five seasons, Lourdes will look in a new direction guarding the cage in 2018.Â
Jared Huiskens appeared in five games in a reserve role last season while
Sam Cleveland played in two contests. They are the only Gray Wolves with experience in goal, and combine for a total of 215:27 between the posts and 28 total saves.
Among the Career Leaders: John McInturf enters the season fourth in program history with 47 games played and fourth with 38 career starts.Â
Casey Hilfinger is fifth with 66 total points and fourth with 28 career assists while
Tanner Jaramillo is tied for fifth with 45 career goals. Hilfinger is also third with 163 career ground balls.
Captains: Casey Hilfinger,
Ben LaPointe, and
John McInturf will serve as the Gray Wolf captains in 2018. All three players are serving in the role for the first time in their Lourdes careers.

Collin Miller went 20-for-31 (64.5%) on faceoffs last season ... Lourdes outscored its opponents in every quarter last season ... the Gray Wolves are 2-1 all-time in overtime contests.
