Upcoming in Gray Wolves Baseball: After nearly four months off, Lourdes added a game to its schedule this week and will open the spring portion of the slate on Tuesday evening with a non-conference game on the road at league foe Siena Heights.
Head Coach Jeremy Snow: In his third season on the Lourdes bench,
Jeremy Snow has a 29-74 (.282) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves, as well as in his career as a collegiate head coach. He is the second head coach in Lourdes program's history,.
Probable Starters: Zach Brown (RHP, 1-0, 2.08) is expected to be handed the ball on Tuesday against Siena Heights to begin the spring slate.
Series Notes: Siena Heights holds a 14-7 advantage all-time against Lourdes in a series that began April 5, 2012. Last year the Saints won two of the three games played at Mercy Field, winning the opener 8-5 and the finale 8-0. The Gray Wolves took the middle game of the series 16-9. Siena Heights holds a 4-2 series edge in games played in Adrian, Mich. as well.
Wrapping Up Last Week (or 21 Weeks Ago): Lourdes concluded the fall schedule Sept. 30 and Oct. 1, being swept in a three-game series at Indiana Tech. The Warriors won the opener 6-5 in 10 inning before taking the nightcap of the Sept. 30 doubleheader 6-4. In the series finale, Indiana Tech earned a 9-6 victory over the Gray Wolves.
Scouting Siena Heights: The Saints finished the fall portion of their schedule 3-9 overall and host Concordia (Mich.) in non-conference play on Monday before entertaining the Gray Wolves. Freddy Jehle leads Siena Heights batting .457 while Brenden Baker is swinging at a .391 clip with a team-leading 10 runs batted in. The Saints hit .263 during the fall while the pitching staff posted a 5.53 earned run average and allowed the opposition to hit .304 against them.
Best Start in Program History: The 3-3 start is the best record for the Gray Wolves on the field through six games in program history. The 2013 team began the year 2-4 through six games, but two of the contests later became forfeit victories, changing the record to 4-2. Prior to this year, Lourdes had not won the third game of the year before game number nine overall.
Bonus Baseball: Lourdes played a pair of extra inning games during the fall, defeating Michigan-Dearborn and falling to Indiana Tech, both in games that went 10 innings. The Gray Wolves are now 10-11 all-time in extra inning games. In 2017, Lourdes went 1-2 in games that extended beyond regulation, splitting a pair of eight-inning contests (in games scheduled for seven innings), while also dropping a 13-inning affair to Lawrence Tech.
Swinging the Bats: Lourdes offense posted a solid fall campaign, batting .343 with a .457 slugging percentage. The Gray Wolves had 20 extra base hits (17 doubles, two triples, and a home run), while reaching base at a .429 clip. Lourdes out-hit its opponents in all six games during the fall slate, while out-scoring the opponents 43-34.
Quite the Fall: Jay Denman batted .609 (14-for-23) during the fall slate with five extra base hits, including four doubles, in the five games he played. The sophomore scored 11 runs from the leadoff spot and stole two bases. Denman had four multi-hit games of the five, including a four-hit and a five-hit game. He enters the spring with a five-game hitting streak.
More Streaking: In addition to
Jay Denman's five-game hitting streak,
Cameron Gallo enters the spring with a six-game hitting streak, reaching safely in every fall game. He batted .375 while also drawing five walks for a .467 on base percentage.Â
Dallas Riggs and
George Pastor both reached in all six games safely as well while
Reilly Walters has a current five-game on base streak entering the week.
Dominating on the Mound: Lourdes starting pitchers were very solid during the fall slate.Â
Zach Brown had a pair of starts, posting a 1-0 record with a 2.08 earned run average. In 13 innings he struck out 13 hitters while opponents batted just .116 against him.Â
Matt York also earned a win, starting one contest, and in 11.2 innings of work fanned 11 hitters. Overall, the Gray Wolf hurlers finished the fall with a 4.47 earned run average and limited the opponents to just a .254 batting average.
Lots of Multi-Hit Efforts: Lourdes had 10 different players post at least one multi-hit game during the fall, with seven of the Gray Wolves having at least two such contests.Â
Jay Denman (a four-hit and a five-hit) and
Devin Stanley (two three-hit) each had pair of three-hit contests.
Stealing Bases: Lourdes was aggressive on the base paths in the opening six games, swiping nine bases while being thrown out just once.Â

Dallas Riggs both had two steals for the Gray Wolves.
Throwing Out Base Runners: Dan Johnson made would-be base stealers think twice in the fall, gunning down three of the seven attempted theft attempts. Â
This and That: Lourdes has scored at least two runs in each of the nine innings over the course of the season ... the Gray Wolves have not allowed runs in the second or fourth innings all year ... Lourdes leadoff hitters are reaching base at a .611 clip ... the Gray Wolves have 16 two-out RBI in six games.
