Upcoming in Gray Wolves Baseball: Lourdes closes out the month of March with a three-game series against the University of Northwestern Ohio at Mercy Field on Friday and Saturday. The Gray Wolves and Racers will play a doubleheader on Friday before wrapping up the series on Saturday with a single contest.
On the Air: Saturday's game against Northwestern Ohio will be broadcast live on BCSN as part of Buckeye Broadband. The game will also be shown at 11:30 p.m. on BCSN2 later Saturday night.
Head Coach Jeremy Snow: In his third season on the Lourdes bench,
Jeremy Snow has a 38-82 (.317) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves, as well as in his career as a collegiate head coach. He is the second head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Probable Starters: Lourdes has not announced its starter for the series opener on Friday.
Matt York (RHP, 2-1, 4.15) is slated to start game two of Friday's doubleheader for the Gray Wolves.
Zach Brown (RHP, 2-3, 3.76) will be handed the baseball for the final game of the series on Saturday.
Series Notes: Northwestern Ohio holds a 17-2 all-time series advantage over the Gray Wolves dating back to March 28, 2012. The Racers have won seven straight in the series, including all three games last year in Lima, Ohio. UNOH won last year's meetings by scores of 11-1, 10-0, and 16-0.
Wrapping Up Last Week: After weather pushed games back to Monday, Madonna swept both ends of a doubleheader in Livonia, Mich. 8-1 and 9-3. The final game of the series was cancelled due to league policy. In the opener,
Cameron Gallo drove home the lone run for the Gray Wolves.
George Pastor went 3-for-3 and
Devin Stanley had two hits for Lourdes in the night cap.
Scouting Northwestern Ohio: The Racers had their four-game winning streak snapped on Monday afternoon, dropping an 8-4 non-conference decision at home to Indiana Tech to close out a nine-game home stand. Blake Maines is batting .471 with three home runs and 23 runs batted in while Junior Gomez is hitting at a .354 clip with seven long balls and 36 RBI. As a team UNOH is hitting .305. The Racers' pitching staff sports a 4.57 earned run average on the year while opponents are batting .253 against their hurlers.
Schedule Changes: Due to the forecasted inclement weather on Thursday and Saturday, the UNOH series was altered. Thursday's single game will now be a doubleheader on Friday and Saturday's twinbill has become a single game. In addition, the twice postponed Ohio State-Lima games do not have a make-up date at this point.
Best Start in Program History: Heading into the weekend series with a 12-11 record, this is the latest in program history that the Gray Wolves have been above the .500 mark. In fact, Lourdes is just four wins shy of matching the school record of 16 wins from the 2013 season. The Gray Wolves have already surpassed the win total from 2017 when the team posted an 11-35 record.
Swinging the Sticks: Lourdes enters the week batting .324 as a team, the 24th best average among all NAIA schools. The Gray Wolves also rank 27th nationally with a .476 slugging percentage. Lourdes' 12 triples are 15th most in the NAIA this year.
Jay Denman ranks 45th in the country with his .421 average while his .750 slugging percentage is 24th best in the NAIA.
Flashing the Leather: Lourdes has committed just 30 errors in 23 games this season, fielding at a .960 clip, the 40th best fielding percentage in NAIA. The Gray Wolves have improved upon last year's .957 mark.
Streak Ends: Dallas Riggs had reached base safely in all 21 games in which he has appeared this season prior to being kept off base in the second game of Monday's doubleheader against Madonna. In addition, his team-best 13-game hitting streak was also snapped in the night cap of the twinbill.
Current Streaks: Corey Righman has the longest active hitting streak on the squad entering the weekend series. He has hit safely in five consecutive games. He is batting .556 on the season, and is 5-for-7 during the hitting streak, which dates back to March 5. Righman and
Kevin Suttles share the longest active on base streak and five straight games as well.
Kruzel Solid in Relief: Daniel Kruzel made his third appearance on the mound Monday against Madonna. He entered the game with two career innings pitched, but tossed 2.2 innings of scoreless relief, allowing just one hit against the Crusaders. In his three total outings he has yet to allow a run and opponents are batting just .188 against him.
Pastor Has Three-Hit Game: George Pastor had his second three-hit game of the season in game two against the Crusaders, giving him six multi-hit games on the season. The junior has raised his batting average to .302 on the season.
Driving In Runs: Glen Crabtree had another RBI in the doubleheader against Madonna on Monday, increasing his team lead to 23. Crabtree is hitting .342 on the year with 15 extra base hits, and slugging at a .671 clip.
This and That: George Pastor is the only Gray Wolf to appear in, and start, all 23 games this season ...
Cameron Gallo has not committed an error in 146 chances at first base ... Lourdes is 6-2 at home already this season after winning just 35 total home games (5.83/season) during the program's first six years.
