Lourdes Advances to Silver Bracket Championship at Global eSports Classic

Lourdes posted a 3-1 record on Saturday at the Global eSports Classic held on the campus of Grand View University, and has advanced to the championship match in the silver bracket in Des Moines, Iowa.

The Gray Wolves posted a 2-1 record in pool play, downing Oakland and Midland while falling to team AZIO.  Lourdes lost the tie-breaker for bracket placement, and was placed into the silver bracket instead of the champion bracket, and won its semifinal match against Indiana Tech.  The pool play matches were all single games while the bracket play is best of three.

Lourdes opened pool play with a win against Oakland. Lourdes overwhelmed the Golden Grizzlies' lanes, snatched the Baron, and pushed into the top, wiping out the entire team while destroying the Nexus. The Gray Wolves finished with a 14-1 kill advantage.

Lourdes then faced the amatuer, yet experienced, team AZIO in the second match. The Gray Wolves made some errors in a couple fights in the top lane and lost mid-priority. That cost Lourdes two Baron's (which was made extremely powerful from the recent patch). There was no way to stop the high minion damage from melting the towers.

The third game against Midland was crucial, with the outcome determining the team's placement in the bracket round. The game was relatively uneventful, besides Wesley Pratt (Eureka, Mo./Eureka H.S.), ADC, and Connor Doyle (Winthrop, Maine/Winthrop H.S.), support taking a few towers and kills. Lourdes got the Rift Herald and smashed it through Midland's defenses at top and nearly ended the game.  Midland respawned too soon for Lourdes to enter another team fight with full health opponents. Lourdes recalled back to base and ran right back through the top, won the team fight and destroyed the Nexus at 20 minutes with a victory of 15-4 in kills.

Lourdes finished pool play in a tie with Colorado University, but ultimately lost the tie-breaker for the champion bracket and was instead the top seed in the silver bracket.

The Gray Wolves battled Indiana Tech in the best of three match. The first game was a steady back and forth contest of team fighting for 41 minutes, with Lourdes stealing an inferno Drake from the Warriors. Lourdes made a key turning point by winning a team fight in the top lane, demonstrating good target prioritization and communication. This gave Lourdes enough time to run back down river and nab the Baron. With the Baron minions they were able to destroy all of Indiana's inhibators and patiently take the team fight in their base and destroy the Nexus with 22 kills to 15. Jonathan Long (Burleson, Texas/Centennial H.S.) played top lane really well with good item building and skillfully handling Camille to score 10 kills.

The second game was played very cleanly by Lourdes, taking the Rift Herald, two Barons, and all towers, winning the game with a 14-3 kill edge.

Lourdes advances to Sunday's championship match in the silver bracket against a yet to be determined opponent.
