Upcoming in Gray Wolves Lacrosse: Lourdes closes its three-game homestand this week with a pair of games against teams ranked in the top-three in the latest NAIA national poll. The Gray Wolves welcome second-ranked Madonna to Wildcat Stadium on Wednesday night before entertaining third-ranked Indiana Tech on Saturday afternoon.
Head Coach Patrick Yannarelli: In his fifth season on the Lourdes bench,
Patrick Yannarelli has a 49-20 (.710) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. Yannarelli was named the NAIA National Coach of the Year in 2016. He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Lourdes and Madonna have only met once previously, on March 17, 2017. The Gray Wolves were 19-1 victors over the Crusaders in Livonia, Mich. Lourdes and Indiana Tech have split four previous meetings 2-2 in a series that began March 23, 2016. Last year the Warriors won both contests between the two schools. Indiana Tech won the regular season meeting 14-7 in Fort Wayne and a 13-12 contest in Greenville, S.C. in the NAIA National Invitational. Lourdes is 2-0 against the Warriors at Wildcat Stadium.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes fell behind fifth-ranked Siena Heights 6-0 at halftime on Wednesday evening before falling to the Saints 7-4 in the WHAC opener for both schools in Adrian, Mich.Â
Greg Johanning scored twice for the Gray Wolves while
Jared Huiskens made 10 saves in goal. On Friday, Lourdes built a 9-0 lead midway through the third quarter on the way to a 14-2 victory at home against Robert Morris (Ill.).Â
Tanner Jaramillo scored four goals and
Mark O'Bryant added three for Lourdes while Huiskens made nine stops.
Scouting Madonna: After winning just one game during their inaugural 2017 campaign, the Crusaders have won their first 12 games in 2018 after downing Concordia (Mich.) 18-10 on Saturday. Cole Gingell has scored 55 goals and added 25 assists for 80 total points while Ian Rush has 40 goals. Tyler Kilar has handed out a team-high 34 assists. In goal, Gary Cutler has played a majority of the minutes, sporting a 6.07 goals against average and a .562 save percentage.
Scouting Indiana Tech: The Warriors won their seventh straight game to open the season on Saturday, downing Aquinas 17-6 at home. Indiana Tech hosts Siena Heights on Wednesday before visiting Lourdes. Will McKinney has scored a team-high 25 goals while Noah Puckett leads the team with 24 assists and 37 total points. In goal, Evan Schuster sports a 6.22 GAA and a .685 save percentage while Joe Dosen has a 5.20 GAA and a .552 save mark.
Home Sweet Home: Lourdes improved to 3-0 at Wildcat Stadium this season with its victory over Robert Morris (Ill.) on Friday. The Gray Wolves are 14-0 all-time at Wildcat Stadium since they began playing there prior to the 2016 season.
Rookie Solid at the X: Jake Noel has been masterful taking face-offs for Lourdes this season, winning 80-of-116 (69.0%) of his draws. He is on pace to break the school's single season record of 60.8%. In addition, Noel leads the team with 59 ground balls this year.
Sharing the Wealth: While
Greg Johanning (16 goals),
Cory Campbell (15 goals), and
Mark O'Bryant (14 goals) lead the Gray Wolves in scoring, a total of 13 different Lourdes players have scored this season.
