Upcoming in Gray Wolves Soccer: Lourdes wraps up a three-match homestand on Wednesday evening as the Gray Wolves host nationally-ranked Northwestern Ohio at Wildcat Stadium. Â The final two-match road trip of the regular season begins on Friday evening, as Lourdes heads to Grand Rapids, Mich. to face Cornerstone.
Head Coach Matt Johnson: Matt Johnson took over the Lourdes men's soccer program prior to the start of the 2019 season as just the second head coach in program history. Â Johnson sports a 79-92-8 (.464) record overall beginning his 10th season as a men's collegiate soccer coach and has a 4-8 (.333) mark at Lourdes.
Series Notes: Northwestern Ohio has won all four previous meetings between the two schools dating back to Sept. 26, 2015. Â The Racers won last year's meeting 5-0 in Lima, Ohio. Â The two schools have only played at Wildcat Stadium once previously, in 2016, a 5-0 UNOH victory. Â Cornerstone is 3-1 all-time against Lourdes in a series that began Oct. 28, 2015. Â The Golden Eagles have won three straight meetings between the two schools after a 2-0 triumph at Wildcat Stadium last year. Â The two schools have split a pair of matches in Grand Rapids, Mich.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Andris Klempert scored the lone goal of the match for Lourdes on Wednesday as the Gray Wolves fell 4-1 to Cleary at home. Â
Ali Chokr made five saves for the Gray Wolves in the loss. Â
Brendon Long scored the match-winner with 7:08 to play on Saturday against Aquinas as the Gray Wolves downed the Saints 1-0. Â Chokr earned a clean sheet in the match making four stops in goal.
Scouting Northwestern Ohio: The Racers are unbeaten in their last nine matches and have won two straight contests after a 3-0 victory over Cornerstone on Saturday. Â Karim Jouini leads Northwestern Ohio with five goals and 10 points while Gustavo Moses also has 10 points. Â Devin Morgan leads the Racers with four assists. Â In goal, Mark McMillan has played most of the minutes, sporting a 0.71 goals against average and a .714 save percentage.
Scouting Cornerstone: The Golden Eagles enter the week having dropped five straight matches after falling at Northwestern Ohio 3-0 on Saturday. Â Cornerstone plays at Siena Heights Wednesday before hosting Lourdes. Â Micah Boggs, Christian Galloway, and Welamaza Magwentshu all lead the Golden Eagles with two goals and an assist for five points. Â In goal, Joshua Mitchell has posted a 2.62 goals against average and a .695 save percentage.
Facing Ranked Opponents: Northwestern Ohio will be the sixth NAIA top-25 opponent the Gray Wolves have faced in program history. Â The Gray Wolves are still looking for their first victory against a ranked foe, posting a 0-4-1 mark all-time. Â The lone result came on Sept. 24, 2016, a 1-1 draw with third-ranked Davenport.
Chokr Matches Single Season Shutout Mark: Ali Chokr recorded his third shutout of the season on Saturday against Aquinas, tying the school's single season mark for clean sheets. Â The sophomore netminder matched the record set by
Jose Cedillo in 2015 and then equalled again by Cedillo in 2017. Â For his career, Chokr has five shutouts, second most in program history behind Cedillo's seven.
A New Goal Scorer: Brendon Long's match-winning goal against Aquinas on Saturday was the redshirt-junior's first of his Gray Wolf career. Â Long became just the fifth Gray Wolf this season to find the back of the net.
Who's Penalizing Who?: Lourdes has drawn four penalty kick opportunities this season. Â However, the Gray Wolves have converted just once from the spot, a goal by
Reece Riccardi against Indiana East back on Aug. 31.
Climbing Up the League Ladder: As Lourdes reaches the midway point in the WHAC standings this week, the Gray Wolves have pulled into a tie with Siena Heights for the final two positions that would qualify for the WHAC tournament. Â The top eight schools at season's end earn spots in the postseason event.
Playing Lots of Matches: Lourdes has three players that have appeared in at least 40 matches all-time for the Gray Wolves. Â Senior
Reece Riccardi has set the school mark with 51 career appearances, while his 41 starts surpassed
Judah Goodridge (2015-2017) for most in Lourdes history. Â
Tyler Rogers and
Olawole Ogunsanya have both stepped onto the field 42 times, tied for fourth most ever at Lourdes.
Scoring Records: Reece Riccardi has passed Haggi Amirally (2016-2017) for third place alone in Lourdes history with his nine career goals. He also is passed
Adilson Darosa (2015, 2017) for third all-time with 21 career points. In his first season at Lourdes,
Darius Passley-Bennett has already moved into a tie with Isamnia Cohen (2016) for seventh all-time with his six goals this year.

Tyler Rogers also ranks in the top-10 on the all-time shot list, having taken 40 total attempts, eighth most at Lourdes.
Captain: Reece Riccardi will serve as the Gray Wolves lone captain for the 2019 season. This will mark his second season in a leadership role for the Gray Wolves.
