Upcoming in Gray Wolves Soccer: The 2019 regular season comes to a close this week for Lourdes as the Gray Wolves make a final push for the postseason.  Lourdes will celebrate Senior Night on Wednesday when Concordia (Mich.) visits Wildcat Stadium before the Gray Wolves entertain Siena Heights on Friday afternoon to kick off Homecoming weekend on campus.

Head Coach Matt Johnson: Matt Johnson took over the Lourdes men's soccer program prior to the start of the 2019 season as just the second head coach in program history.  Johnson sports a 80-95-8 (.459) record overall beginning his 10th season as a men's collegiate soccer coach and has a 5-11 (.313) mark at Lourdes.

Series Notes: Concordia (Mich.) holds a 3-1 series advantage over Lourdes dating back to Oct. 14, 2015.  The Cardinals have won three straight meetings after defeating Lourdes 3-0 last season in Ann Arbor, Mich.  Concordia won the only previous meeting at Wildcat Stadium 5-0 during the 2017 season.  Lourdes and Siena Heights have split four previous meeting 2-2 in a series that began Oct. 24, 2015.  Last year the Gray Wolves closed the season with a 1-0 victory at home.  Lourdes holds a 2-1 series advantage all-time in matches played at Wildcat Stadium.

Wrapping Up Last Week: Madonna scored just before halftime and added another tally midway through the second half as the Crusaders defeated Lourdes 2-0 in Livonia, Mich. on Wednesday.  Ali Chokr made five saves for the Gray Wolves in the setback.  On Saturday at Wildcat Stadium, Lawrence Tech scored the match-winning goal with 6:27 remaining in double overtime to defeat the Gray Wolves 1-0.  Chokr made six stops for Lourdes in the rain.

Scouting Concordia (Mich.): The Cardinals have won two straight matches after downing Siena Heights 3-1 on Friday afternoon.  Anthony Tucker leads Concordia with 11 goals and 24 total points this season while Steven Soboslay has added four goals.  Boris Illic has a team-high three assists.  In goal, Spencer Ward has played more than 800 minutes for the Cardinals, and sports a 2.64 goals against average and a .711 save percentage.

Scouting Siena Heights: The Saints enter the week having dropped two straight matches after falling 3-1 at Concordia (Mich.) on Friday.  Siena Heights visits Aquinas on Wednesday before heading to Lourdes.  Chris Ornelas leads the team with six goals and 12 points while Gustavo Barros and Justin Gray have four goals each.  Leo Hisamatsu has played a majority of the minutes in goal, carrying a 2.78 goals against average and a .736 save percentage.

Thanks Seniors: Lourdes will honor its three members of the 2019 senior class on Wednesday prior to the match with Concordia (Mich.).  Risaiah Osborne, Reece Riccardi, and Tyler Rogers will be recognized for their accomplishments over the past four seasons with the Gray Wolf program.

Battling for a Tournament Berth: Lourdes heads into the final week of the regular season just one point out of eighth place and a berth in the upcoming WHAC tournament.  The Gray Wolves have nine points, one behind Siena Heights and Michigan-Dearborn for seventh and eighth place.  Lourdes is also just three points behind Aquinas for sixth and four in back of Cleary for fifth place.  The Gray Wolves play Concordia (Mich.), who they are tied with in the standings, and Siena Heights, who is just one point ahead of them.

More Extra Time: Lourdes played its fifth overtime match of the season on Saturday against Lawrence Tech, the most in a single year in program history.  The Gray Wolves have yet to finish a contest with a tie though, as all five matches have resulted in an outcome.  Lourdes had played just nine total overtime matches in its first four seasons combined, and now has an all-time 2-7-5 mark when playing beyond 90 minutes.

Solid Defensive Work: Lourdes trio of goalkeepers, Garrett Baxley, Ali Chokr, and Jorge Mendoza, along with its strong defensive corps, have helped the Gray Wolves tie the school's single season mark with five shutouts this year.  In addition, the team has posted a 1.44 goals against average overall, the second best mark in program history behind the 2015 school record of 1.33.

Record-Setting Pace: Ali Chokr is on pace to set a new single season save percentage mark (minimum 75 shots faced) this season.  The sophomore netminder enters the week with a .803 save percentage, ahead of Jose Cedillo's current single season record of .750 set in 2017.  Chokr has also tied the individual single season record for shutouts with three, tying Cedillo's mark from 2015 and 2017.

Amoo Among School Shot Leaders: Farouk Amoo has 46 shot attempts this season for the Gray Wolves, third most on the single season charts in program history.  Jake Kirchoff-Sleet holds the top two spots, firing 60 shots in 2016 and 57 in 2015.

Scoring Records: Reece Riccardi has passed Haggi Amirally (2016-2017) for third place alone in Lourdes history with his 10 career goals. He also is passed Adilson Darosa (2015, 2017) for third all-time with 23 career points. In his first season at Lourdes, Darius Passley-Bennett has already moved into a tie with Isamnia Cohen (2016) for seventh all-time with his six goals this year.

Captain: Reece Riccardi will serve as the Gray Wolves lone captain for the 2019 season. This will mark his second season in a leadership role for the Gray Wolves.

This and That: Every field player that has stepped on the pitch has attempted at least one shot ... 11 of the Gray Wolves' 15 goals have come after halftime ... six of Lourdes last eight victories dating back to 2018 have been by 1-0 scores.
