Men's Lacrosse Opens Season This Weekend in Iowa

Upcoming in Gray Wolves Lacrosse: Lourdes opens its sixth season of men's lacrosse this weekend as the Gray Wolves head to Iowa for a pair of contests.  The Gray Wolves travel to Saint Ambrose for a Saturday evening affair before heading to Clarke for a Sunday matinee.

Head Coach Patrick Yannarelli: In his sixth season on the Lourdes bench, Patrick Yannarelli has a 50-24 (.676) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves.  Yannarelli was named the NAIA National Coach of the Year in 2016.  He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.

Series Notes: Lourdes won the only previous contest against Saint Ambrose 21-9 on March 25, 2016 in a game played in Davenport, Iowa.  The Gray Wolves are also 1-0 all-time against Clarke, having defeated the Pride 20-7 on March 26, 2016 in a neutral site contest also played in Davenport, Iowa.

Wrapping Up Last Season: The Gray Wolves finished 2018 with a 7-6 record overall and a 1-5 mark in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference, finishing in a tie for sixth place in the league standings.  Collin O'Loughlin and Greg Johanning were both named First Team All-WHAC selections for their efforts last season. 

Scouting Saint Ambrose: The Fighting Bees enter the weekend undefeated after defeating Michigan-Dearborn 14-11 in their season opener on Saturday before being awarded a forfeit victory over Cleary on Sunday.  Myles Leyden scored a team-high five goals in the opener while Danny Kinnerk tallied six points on two goals and a team-high four assists.  Hunter Northway was 13-of-26 in faceoffs and collected nine ground balls.  In goal, Johnny Moran played a majority of the minutes, sporting a 6.62 goals against average while making 13 saves at a .722 clip.

Scouting Clarke: The Pride are opening their 2019 season against Lourdes on Sunday after finishing 3-8 in 2018.  Clarke returns 12 players from last season's roster, including leading scorer Micah Sundman, who scored 19 goals and finished the year with 26 points.  Luke Wolf had 16 goals and 22 points last season while Trey Overholser led the team with 10 assists.  In goal, Eric Wenzel returns after playing every minute last season, posting a 14.91 goals against average and a .546 save percentage.

Moving Indoors: Due to frigid temperatures and snow, Saturday's game at Saint Ambrose has been moved to an indoor facility at TBK Bank Sports Complex.

Lourdes in Season Openers: Lourdes is 5-0 all-time in season openers after downing Cleary 13-4 to open the 2018 season.  The Gray Wolves have not opened a season at home since 2014 when they defeated Oakland in the program's debut.

Top Returning Scorers: Mark O'Bryant and Cory Campbell are the Gray Wolves' top returning scorers from 2018.  O'Bryant scored 21 times and added 15 assists for 36 points while Campbell has a team-high 27 goals and 35 total points.
 
Among the Career Leaders: Mark O'Bryant is eighth all-time at Lourdes with 51 career points and seventh with 17 career assists.  Cory Campbell ranks eighth with 31 career goals while Jake Noel is tied for 10th with 84 ground balls.

Captains: Mark O'Bryant will serve as the lone Gray Wolf captains in 2019.  He is serving in the role for the first time in his Lourdes career.

This and That: There are 10 new faces on this year's Gray Wolf roster ... Lourdes is 24-12 all-time on the road ... the Gray Wolves are 10-9 all-time against NAIA top-10 foes ... Collin Miller set a single season record in 2018 winning 67.2% of his faceoffs.
