Box Score 2 The Lourdes baseball team opened its spring break trip in Tucson, Arizona by splitting a twinbill against Mount Marty at Kino Sports Complex Stadium on Monday afternoon.

"Our first game didn't necessarily go the way we wanted it to," said head coach
Jeremy Snow following the games. "I'm proud of the way we kept fighting. Game two was a great team win for us. We responded well and had some great team moments offensively. Braxton had a great game on the mound. I'm proud of the way we battled today. Defensively, we made plays when we needed to and our pitching was solid in game two. We are looking forward to getting back at it tomorrow."

In the first game,
Austin Oulds (Chatham, Ont./Chatham Kent) singled up the middle and stole second before
Cameron Gallo (Mason, Ohio/Bishop Fenwick) drove him home two batters later in the top of the first inning to give Lourdes a 1-0 lead.

Mount Marty (7-7 overall) took control of the contest in the bottom of the third inning, scoring five runs to take a 5-1 lead.

The Lancers added to their lead in the bottom of the fourth inning, using a home run over the right field fence to extend the lead to 6-1. Mount Marty added five more in the inning to push the lead to 11-1.

The Gray Wolves would gain ground in the top of the fifth inning after
George Pastor (Walled Lake, Mich./Central) plated
Jay Denman (Toledo, Ohio/Saint Francis de Sales) with a single up the middle to cut the deficit to 11-2.

Mount Marty would answer again with a run in the bottom half of the inning but Lourdes continued to fight back as
Sedrick Gonzalez (Blissfield, Mich./Blissfield) scored after Denman was hit by a pitch in the top of the sixth. On the ensuing at bat Oulds cleared the bases with a double over the right fielders head to help Lourdes get within 12-6.

In the bottom half of the inning, the Lancers added three more runs to take a commanding 15-6 lead. Lourdes once again answered and made a run late, scoring three more runs but couldn't get any closer as Mount Marty won 15-9.

In game two, Lourdes struck first again as Denman scored on a passed ball in the bottom half of the first inning to put Lourdes ahead 1-0.

After two strong defensive innings for Lourdes, Mount Marty would tack on a run to knot the contest at 1-1. The Lancers took the lead in the top of the sixth inning on a passed ball.

In the bottom half of the sixth inning
Michael Davis (Whittier, Cal./California) drilled a single into left field to plate
Colin Gottschalk (Walled Lake, Mich./Central) and tie the game at 2-2. With Davis on base,
Bryce Gargus (South Haven, Mich./South Haven) hit a ground out to plate the go-ahead run.

The Gray Wolves added an insurance run in bottom of sixth inning, which proved to be just enough as the Lancers added one more but couldn't get any closer as Lourdes went on to claim the 4-3 victory.

Braxton McKart (Monroe, Mich./Monroe) went the distance in game two, tossing a complete game and fanning four batters.

Offensively, the Gray Wolves recorded 11 hits in the two contests.

Lourdes will be back in action tomorrow afternoon at 12 p.m. when it meets Dordt for a pair of games at the Kino Sports Complex.
