Upcoming in Gray Wolves Lacrosse: Lourdes continues Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference action this week with matchups against Lawrence Tech and Aquinas. The Gray Wolves host the Blue Devils on Wednesday evening at Wildcat Stadium before traveling to Grand Rapids to take on the Saints on Saturday.
Head Coach Patrick Yannarelli: In his sixth season on the Lourdes bench,
Patrick Yannarelli has a 55-25 (.688) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. Â Yannarelli was named the NAIA National Coach of the Year in 2016. Â He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Lourdes and Lawrence Tech will meet for the eighth time in a series that began on Apr. 2, 2014. Lourdes picked up an 18-8 victory in the series opener. The Gray Wolves currently own a 5-2 advantage in the series, but have dropped two of the last three meetings. Lourdes is 4-1 all-time against Aquinas, dating back to Mar. 29, 2014. The Gray Wolves' only loss was a 15-13 setback in 2015.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes earned a victory over Cleary by way of forfeit last Wednesday evening to help extend its win streak. The ninth-ranked Gray Wolves opened WHAC action on Saturday in impressive fashion, downing Taylor 21-4. The matchup was the first ever meeting between the two programs.Â
Scouting Lawrence Tech: The Blue Devils enter the contest after being edged by Aquinas 14-13, dropping its second contest in three games. Justin Light and Brendan Oles have paced the Lawrence Tech offense this season, netting 16 and 15 goals, respectively. Aidan Nolan has also tallied double-digit goals, scoring 12 times this season for the Blue Devils. Oles has added a team-leading 11 assists and also leads the team with 26 points. Nik Kubik leads the team and ranks 11th nationally with 42 ground balls. Joel Trent has played the majority of minutes in goal, posting 53 saves for a 13.87 goals against average.Â
Scouting Aquinas: The Saints will host Siena Heights on Wednesday before entertaining the Gray Wolves on Saturday. The duo of Cam Rogers and Sam Klinksy have scored 16 and 15 goals respectively to lead Aquinas offensively. Walker West has scored 11 times for Aquinas, and ranks third on the team behind Rogers (15) and Klinsky (12) with 11 assists. Samuel Werner leads the team, and ranks fifth nationally, with 54 ground balls. Clayton Boerigter has started all five games for the Saints in the net, recording 54 saves. Boerigter owns a 9.32 goals against average and a .535 save percentage.
A Total Team Effort: Lourdes began its conference slate on Saturday with a solid 22-4 victory over Taylor. The Gray Wolves had six players with multiple goals in the victory, led by a pari of four-goal efforts from
Nick Johnson and
Cory Campbell.Â
Hart Proving His Worth: Tyler Hart has been the backbone of the Gray Wolf defense during his rookie season. The netminder leads the WHAC, and ranks second nationally, with an impressive 5.40 goals against average.Â
A National Ranking: Lourdes moved into the NAIA top-10 coaches poll after its 3-1 start. The Gray Wolves are ranked ninth nationally in the latest poll. The last time Lourdes was nationally ranked was March 27, 2018 when the Gray Wolves were tied for seventh.
This and That: Lourdes is 20-6 all-time at home, including 15-3 at Wildcat Stadium ...
