Upcoming in Gray Wolves Lacrosse: The penultimate week of the regular season has arrived for Lourdes and with it comes a pair of key road Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contests. The Gray Wolves travel to Siena Heights on Wednesday evening before a Saturday night tilt at third-ranked Indiana Tech.
Head Coach Patrick Yannarelli: In his sixth season on the Lourdes bench,
Patrick Yannarelli has a 56-27 (.675) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. Yannarelli was named the NAIA National Coach of the Year in 2016. He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Siena Heights holds a slim 4-3 series advantage dating back to March 26, 2014. Last season, the Saints defeated Lourdes 7-4 in Adrian, Mich., where Siena Heights is 3-1 all-time against the Gray Wolves. Indiana Tech leads the all-time series with Lourdes 3-2 dating back to March 23, 2016, and have won three straight meetings between the two schools. Last year, the Warriors notched a 14-11 victory at Wildcat Stadium. Indiana Tech won the only previous meeting in Fort Wayne, Ind. during the 2017 campaign.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes jumped out to a 5-1 lead after the opening 15 minutes on the way to a 10-6 victory over Concordia (Mich.) at home on Saturday afternoon.
Blake Alexander and
Nick Johnson each scored three times for the Gray Wolves while
Tyler Hart made 14 saves in the cage.
Scouting Siena Heights: The Saints have won three straight after being awarded a forfeit victory over Cleary last Saturday. In the team's last outing on the field, Siena Heights downed Concordia (Mich.) on the road 13-12 on April 3. Jake Gallaher leads Siena Heights with 23 goals and 18 assists for 41 total points. Alex Gilbert has 21 goals and 27 points while Ryan Mamo has added 18 tallies and eight helpers for 26 points. In goal, Vinnie Jean has played a majority of the minutes, sporting a 10.00 goals against average and a .583 save percentage.
Scouting Indiana Tech: The Warriors enter the week having won seven of their last eight contests after a 13-11 triumph at Lawrence Tech on Saturday. Indiana Tech visits Aquinas on Wednesday before hosting Lourdes. Chandler Peterson leads the Warriors with 50 points, having scored 32 times while adding 18 assists. Noah Puckett has added 24 goals and 16 helpers for 40 points. In goal, Evan Schuster has seen most of the action, posting an 8.99 goals against average and a .517 save percentage.
A Pair of 20-Goal Scorers: Nick Johnson and
Blake Alexander both surpassed the 20-goal mark last weekend, and enter play with 23 and 21 goals respectively.
Solid in the Cage: Tyler Hart has been solid in goal for the Gray Wolves all season. The freshman netminder sports a 7.40 goals against average while making 71 saves. His 8.88 stops per night rank 19th nationally, and he enters the week with a .568 save percentage.
Inside the Numbers: Lourdes has done little things to win games this season. On defense,
Luke Burridge leads the team with 13 caused turnovers while
Clay Hall has 14 ground balls.
Collin Miller has 35 ground balls, winning 55.7% of his faceoffs.
Mixing Up the Lineup: Lourdes has had 17 different players draw starting assignments over the first eight games (not including the forfeit), with
Jake Noel,
Collin O'Loughlin,
Ian Paige,
Luke Burridge, and
Tyler Hart on the field for the opening faceoff in every contest.
This and That: The win over Concordia (Mich.) was Lourdes' first this season when being outshot (42-35) ... 10 different players have scored goals this season and 12 have registered at least one point ...
