at Taylor (1-0, 0-0 CL)
Turner Stadium - Upland, Ind.

Upcoming in Gray Wolves Soccer: Lourdes University opens the fifth season of men's soccer on Tuesday evening as the Gray Wolves travel to Upland, Ind. to battle Taylor.  The match is the first of seven consecutive non-league contests to begin the 2019 campaign.

Head Coach Matt Johnson: Matt Johnson took over the Lourdes men's soccer program prior to the start of the 2019 season as just the second head coach in program history.  Johnson sports a 75-84-8 (.473) record overall beginning his 10th season as a men's collegiate soccer coach and has a 0-0 mark at Lourdes.

Series Notes: Lourdes and Taylor are meeting on the pitch in men's soccer for the first time ever on Tuesday night.

Wrapping Up 2018: Lourdes finished the 2018 season with a 3-12-1 record overall and a 2-8-1 mark in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play.  The Gray Wolves finished in a 10th for 10th place in the league and did not qualify for the WHAC tournament.

Scouting Taylor: The Trojans opened their 2019 season at home on Friday with a 3-1 victory over Concordia (Mich.).  Paul McBride scored twice for Taylor while Josiah Wieland also found the back of the net.  Quinn Partain handed out the Trojans' lone assist.  In goal, Luke Williams went the distance making two saves while allowing just the one goal.  Taylor posted a 6-8-4 record in 2018 and a 3-3-3 mark in Crossroads League play.

Lourdes in Season Openers: Lourdes enters the contest unbeaten all-time in season openers with a 3-0-1 record.  Last year, the Gray Wolves downed Indiana East 1-0 on the road.  Lourdes is 2-0 all-time when beginning the campaign on the road, as the Gray Wolves scored a 3-2 overtime triumph in 2016 in the program's inaugural match.

2018 Award Winners: Reece Riccardi was named to the WHAC Champions of Character Team for the Gray Wolves in 2018 while Ali Chokr earned WHAC Defensive Player of the Week accolades on Sept. 3.  In addition, Brett Chasnick, Riley Hogan, Chuk Moses, and Riccardi were all named to the WHAC All-Academic Team.  Hogan was also named a NAIA Scholar-Athlete.

Top Returning Scorers: Lourdes has just four players on its roster that found the back of the net in 2018.  Savio Adams, who is sitting out the year as a redshirt, scored three times.  Reece Riccardi, Jose Silveira, and Jared Poslaiko also tallied goals for the Gray Wolves last year.

Experience Returns in Goal: Lourdes has a pair of sophomore goalkeepers that shared time one season ago.  Ali Chokr posted a 2.47 goals against average and a .684 save percentage while Garrett Baxley had a 3.33 GAA and a .692 save mark.  Jorge Mendoza sat out last season as a redshirt and is back for year two.

Experience Returning: Lourdes has three players that enter the season having appeared in at least 30 matches all-time for the Gray Wolves.  Senior Reece Riccardi ranks fourth all-time in program history having played in 41 contests, seven shy of Akilla Arno's (2015-2017) school record of 48.  Tyler Rogers and Olawole Ogunsnya have both stepped onto the field 30 times, tied for 10th most ever at Lourdes.

In the Record Book: Reece Riccardi is tied with Haggi Amirally (2016-2017) for third in Lourdes history with his eight career goals. He also is tied with Amirally for fourth all-time with 19 career points. Riccardi's 47 career shot attempts are sixth most ever at Lourdes while Tyler Rogers is tied for 10th entering the season with 31 career shots.

New Faces: Lourdes has seven players on this year's roster that are new to the program in 2019.  Lucas Bosch, Kevin Gonzalez, Andris Klempert, and Josh Varney have arrived on campus as freshmen.  Amin Elbashir and Darius Passley-Bennett transferred together from Lassen Community College while Ben Noud played for Coach Johnson at Marygrove in 2017 before attending Lewis & Clark State University last year.  In addition, Marlon Taite and Jorge Mendoza sat out last season as redshirts and are ready for their first season on the field for the Gray Wolves.

Non-Conference Success: Throughout the first five seasons, Lourdes has played well during non-conference action. The Gray Wolves are 10-9-1 all-time in non-conference tilts.

Looking for a Second Straight Win: Lourdes ended the 2018 season with a 1-0 victory at home against Siena Heights.  As the Gray Wolves begin 2019, they are looking to post back-to-back victories for the first time since winning three consecutive matches Sept. 17-27, 2017.

Captain: Reece Riccardi will serve as the Gray Wolves lone captain for the 2019 season. This will mark his second season in a leadership role for the Gray Wolves.

This and That: Lourdes is 12-21-1 all-time in road matches ... the Gray Wolves have never played a neutral site match in program history ... 58 different players have stepped onto the pitch for the Gray Wolves in the program's first four seasons.
