Upcoming in Gray Wolves Soccer: After suffering a heart-breaking double-overtime loss in the season opener, Lourdes returns to the pitch this week for a pair of matches, including the home opener.  The Gray Wolves travel to Ohio Christian on Tuesday evening before entertaining Indiana East on Saturday night at Wildcat Stadium.

Head Coach Matt Johnson: Matt Johnson took over the Lourdes men's soccer program prior to the start of the 2019 season as just the second head coach in program history.  Johnson sports a 75-85-8 (.470) record overall beginning his 10th season as a men's collegiate soccer coach and has a 0-1 (.000) mark at Lourdes.

Series Notes: Lourdes and Ohio Christian are meeting on the pitch in men's soccer for the first time ever on Tuesday night.  Lourdes leads the all-time series against Indiana East 1-0-1 dating back to 2017.  The Gray Wolves won last year's contest 1-0 on the road behind an early second half goal from Osbaldo Senderos.  Lourdes and Indiana East tied their first meeting, 1-1, at Wildcat Stadium.

Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes and Taylor battled into the second overtime scoreless before the Trojans netted the match-winner on a restart with 6:53 remaining to earn the victory on Tuesday evening in the Gray Wolves' season opener.  Jorge Mendoza made three stops in goal for Lourdes while Farouk Amoo led the team with four shot attempts.

Scouting Ohio Christian: The Trailblazers open their 2019 season hosting Lourdes on Tuesday.  Ohio Christian posted a 5-12 record in 2018, including a 2-7 mark in the River States Conference, finishing in eighth place.  Kyle Luneke returns to lead the Trailblazer offense after leading the team with nine goals and 18 points last season.  Bryce Hull added six goals and three assists for 15 points.  In goal, Ohio Christian has a pair of freshmen netminders this season, Trenton Tichnell and Noah Murphy.

Scouting Indiana East: The Red Wolves opened the 2019 season at home on Saturday with a 2-1 victory over Shawnee State.  Gustavo Ferrari scored a goal and added an assist while Pedro Ferro tallied the match-winner for Indiana East.  Dumi Kumwenda also handed out an assist.  Aaron Gipson went the distance in goal, earning the win for the Red Wolves, making seven saves.

Lourdes in Home Openers: Lourdes enters the season 1-2-1 all-time in their home openers.  The Gray Wolves will look to snap a two-match winless streak in home openers on Saturday after falling to Bethel (Ind.) 3-0 in last year's first contest.  The lone home-opening win came in 2016, 3-1 over Grace Bible.

Overtime Becoming a Norm in Season Openers: Lourdes season opener went to overtime for the third time in five seasons last Tuesday at Taylor.  The Gray Wolves are now 1-1-1 when playing more than 90 minutes of soccer in their season debut.

Mendoza Solid in Goal: Jorge Mendoza had solid Lourdes debut last Tuesday between the posts.  The redshirt-freshman made three saves and kept the match scoreless until the second overtime.  The lone goal he allowed was on a quick restart following a foul outside the box.

Newcomers Make Their Debuts: Lourdes had four players draw starting assignments in their debuts with the Gray Wolves.  Jorge Mendoza started in goal as a redshirt-freshman while true freshmen Lucas Bosch, Kevin Gonzalez, and Josh Varney also earned a start against Taylor.  Transfer Ben Noud came off the bench for the Gray Wolves to make his first appearance in a Lourdes uniform as well.

Playing Lots of Matches: Lourdes has three players that enter the season having appeared in at least 30 matches all-time for the Gray Wolves.  Senior Reece Riccardi ranks fourth all-time in program history having played in 41 contests, six shy of Akilla Arno's (2015-2017) school record of 48.  Riccardi's 34 starts also rank fourth in Lourdes history.  Tyler Rogers and Olawole Ogunsanya have both stepped onto the field 31 times, tied for 10th most ever at Lourdes.

In the Record Book: Reece Riccardi is tied with Haggi Amirally (2016-2017) for third in Lourdes history with his eight career goals. He also is tied with Amirally for fourth all-time with 19 career points. Riccardi's 50 career shot attempts are fifth most ever at Lourdes while Tyler Rogers is tied for 10th with 31 career shots.

Non-Conference Success:  Lourdes has played well during non-conference action having posted a 10-10-1 all-time mark outside the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference.

Captain: Reece Riccardi will serve as the Gray Wolves lone captain for the 2019 season. This will mark his second season in a leadership role for the Gray Wolves.

This and That: Lourdes is 12-22-1 all-time in road matches and 9-17-4 at Wildcat Stadium ... the Gray Wolves have never played a neutral site match in program history ... Lourdes is 1-4-5 when playing overtime, and is winless since the program's inaugural match at Grace Bible (Aug. 28, 2015).
