Upcoming in Gray Wolves Soccer: After a season-opening victory last Saturday, Lourdes looks for a 2-0 start for just the second time in program history on Saturday evening as the Gray Wolves travel downstate to face Rio Grande in non-conference action.
Head Coach Matt Johnson: Matt Johnson took over as the second head coach in program's history prior to the 2019 season. Â Johnson sports a 82-96-8 (.462) record overall in his 11th season as a men's collegiate soccer coach and has a 7-12 (.368) mark in his second year at Lourdes.
Series Notes: Lourdes and Rio Grande are meeting on the pitch for the first time ever in men's soccer on Saturday.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Brendon Long scored twice while
Savio Adams added a goal and two assists as Lourdes opened up the 2020 season with a 3-2 victory on the road at Point Park on Saturday. Â
Ali Chokr made five saves in goal for the Gray Wolves as Lourdes outshot the Pioneers 26-14 for the match.
Scouting Rio Grande: The Red Storm have split their first two matches of the 2020 season, falling last Saturday 2-0 at Indiana Wesleyan in non-conference action. Â Silas Machado has a goal and an assist on the year for Rio Grande while Charlie Chechlacz has also found the back of the net for the Red Storm. Â In goal, Josh Wilson made four saves while yielding just one goal in a win over Mount Vernon Nazarene. Â Kieran Hodges made two saves on four shots against Indiana Wesleyan.
Looking for a Rare 2-0 Start: Lourdes is looking to win back-to-back games to open a season for just the second time in program history. Â The Gray Wolves won five consecutive contests to open the 2016 campaign. Â
Longest Season-Opening Road Start Ever: Due to the cancellation of the Gray Wolves' season opener against Goshen, Lourdes is now starting the season with three consecutive road matches for the first time in program history. Â Only once previous, in 2019, have the Gray Wolves even played two straight contests away from Wildcat Stadium to start a year.
Lots of Action Against the River States Conference: The first three of Lourdes non-conference matches this fall are against teams from the River States Conference. Â The Gray Wolves downed Point Park in the opener, face Rio Grande this weekend, before wrapping up the three-match road trip on Wednesday with a visit to Indiana East.
Gray Wolf Debuts: Lourdes had four players make their debut in a Gray Wolf uniform last Saturday at Point Park. Â

Rodolfo Ruiz, and
Anthony Samuel all started in their first action wearing the terra cotta and black while
Amin Elbashir came off the bench for his first action at Lourdes.Â
Quite a Start: Fifth-year senior
Brendon Long entered the match at Point Park with just one career goal and four career points over his first two seasons with the Gray Wolves. Â The defender scored twice against the Pioneers, both times off of corner kicks, doubling his career point total in the process.
Adams Gives and Receives: Savio Adams handed out assists on both of
Brendon Long's goals last weekend, setting them up with a service from the corner. Â The redshirt-senior, who missed the 2019 campaign due to injury, also scored his fourth career goal on the receiving end of
Andris Klempert's assist.Â
Firing Shots: Farouk Amoo came off the bench and led the Gray Wolves with five shot attempts at Point Park as Lourdes finished the match with a 26-14 shot advantage. Â Amoo led the Gray Wolves in shot attempts in 2019 with 47 on the season.
Chokr Solid in Goal: Ali Chokr made five saves for the Gray Wolves in the season opener, his 28th career appearance in goal at Lourdes, lowering his career goals against average to 2.04. Â The victory was Chokr's seventh all-time in net.

Lots of Experience: Olawole Ogunsanya moved into second place alone in program history having appeared in 49 career matches after drawing a starting assignment in the season opener at Point Park. Â He trails only
Reece Riccardi (2016-2019), who appeared in 57 matches, on the Gray Wolves' all-time list. Â Jose Silviera ranks eighth all-time for the Gray Wolves, having stepped onto the pitch 38 times for Lourdes. Â He is one appearance shy of
Jose Cedillo's (2015-2017) mark for seventh in school history. Â
Brendon Long ranks fifth all-time at Lourdes having made 35 career starts. Â He is two starting assignments shy of matching Cedillo for fourth on the list.
A Different Look This Season: Due to COVID-19, four schools in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference have opted to not play soccer this fall, moving all of their matches to the spring. Â The remaining eight league schools will play a split season, competing in five WHAC matches in the fall and six in the spring. Â The WHAC tournament and NAIA National Championships will also take place in the spring.
Team Captains: Lourdes has tri-captains for the 2020 season. Â Serving in the Gray Wolves' leadership role are seniors
Savio Adams and
Jose Silveira along with junior
Cameron Poslaiko. Â All three are first time captains for Lourdes.
