Upcoming in Gray Wolves Soccer: Winless in its last three matches, Lourdes looks to rebound from last Saturday's scoreless draw with a pair of road contests this week. The Gray Wolves travel to Madonna on Wednesday afternoon before kicking off at Rochester (Mich.) on Saturday afternoon.
Head Coach Matt Johnson: Matt Johnson took over as the second head coach in program's history prior to the 2019 season. Johnson sports a 96-108-10 (.472) record overall in his 11th season as a men's collegiate soccer coach and has a 21-24-1 (.467) mark in his second year at Lourdes.
Series Notes: Madonna leads the all-time series against Lourdes 5-0-1 in a series that began Oct. 31, 2015. The Crusaders have won five straight meetings between the two schools after downing Lourdes 2-1 at Wildcat Stadium on March 31, 2021. Madonna is 2-0 against Lourdes in Livonia, Mich. Lourdes is 3-1 all-time against Rochester (Mich.) in a series that dates back to Sept. 23, 2017. The Gray Wolves have won two straight after a 2-1 victory over the Warriors on Oct. 31 of last season at Wildcat Stadium. Lourdes is 2-0 all-time on Rochester's home pitch.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Aquinas held a 13-10 shot advantage but neither side would find the back of the net on Saturday (Oct. 9) as the Gray Wolves and Saints battled to a scoreless double-overtime draw at Wildcat Stadium.
Igor Silva made three saves in net for Lourdes while earning his third clean sheet of the season.
Scouting Madonna: The Crusaders are winless in their last two matches after battling Rochester (Mich.) to a 1-1 draw on Saturday (Oct. 9) at home. Ryota Nakajima leads Madonna with five goals and 13 points on the season while Wagner Gameiro has handed out four assists. In net, Youssou Ouendeno has played all but 14 minutes this season, sporting a 0.68 goals against average and a .870 save percentage while recording three shutouts.
Scouting Rochester (Mich.): The Warriors are winless in their last three matches entering the week after a 1-1 tie at Madonna on Saturday (Oct. 9). Rochester hosts Aquinas on Wednesday before entertaining Lourdes. Dmitar Stankovic leads the Warriors offensively with six goals and 12 points this season while Viktor Juncaj has a team-high two assists. Wyatt Chunn has played every minute in goal, sporting a 2.84 goals against average and a .597 save percentage.
A Rarity: The scoreless draw against Aquinas was just the third in program history for the Gray Wolves. The first one came in 2015, also against the Saints, while the most recent won was against Indiana Tech in 2018.
Extra Soccer: The overtime match against Aquinas was the first for Lourdes since March 20, 2021 against Indiana Tech and just the second since the end of the 2019 season.
Silva Ties Single Season Mark: Igor Silva tied Lourdes' single season shutout record with his third of the year against Aquinas. He joins Jose Cedillo (2015, 2017) and
Ali Chokr (2019) atop the record book.
Climbing the Single Season Charts: With his 10th goal of the season earlier this season,
Farouk Amoo is now third on the Gray Wolves' single season goals list. He trails Judah Goodridge's 2017 total of 11 by one for second in a single season while Jake Kirchoff-Sleet holds the school mark having found the back of the net 13 times in 2016. Amoo's 23 total points also ranks third on the single season list, one point behind Goodridge in 2017.
A First Half Juggernaut: Lourdes has taken advantage of the opening 45 minutes of action this season, outscoring opponents 12-3 in the first half. The Gray Wolves have entered halftime with the lead or tied in all 11 matches this year.
Amoo Second All-Time in Scoring: Farouk Amoo has scored 20 goals over his four years with the Gray Wolves, moving him into second place on the career scoring list. He is one goal shy of Jake Kirchoff-Sleet's (2015-2016) school record of 21 career goals. Amoo also has 48 career points, also second most all-time at Lourdes, just four behind Kirchoff-Sleet in that category as well.
Adams Moving on Up: Savio Adams has nine career goals at Lourdes, tied with
Brendon Long (2018-2020) for fifth on the school's single season charts. Adams is one tally behind Reece Riccardi (2016-2019) for fourth in school history. Adams now has 26 career points, fourth most all-time at Lourdes. Adams is also tied with
Farouk Amoo for third on the career assist list with eight as well.
Handing Out Assists: Leon Eisert,
Andris Klempert and
Farouk Amoo share the team lead with three assists each this season. They are each one helper shy of moving into a tie for fifth on the single season assists chart.
Lots of Matches: Olawole Ogunsanya played his 71st match all-time for the Gray Wolves last Saturday (Oct. 9) against Aquinas. He holds the school record for all-time appearances while
Jose Silveira ranks second with 63 matches played.
Robert Pereznegron has moved into second place alone for starts wearing the terra cotta and black. Pereznegron has been in the starting 11 49 times, three shy of
Brendon Long's (2018-2020) school record of 52 starts.
Mixing Up the Lineup: Lourdes has used a variety of combinations in their starting 11 this year. A total of 21 different players have drawn at least one starting assignment, with only
N'Faly Diallo earning the starting nod in all 11 matches.
Team Captains: Savio Adams,
Cameron Poslaiko, and
Jose Silveira are serving as the Gray Wolves' captains for the second straight season.
