Playing in the inaugural Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Championships for Rocket League on Saturday afternoon, Lourdes picked up one victory in its three matches in the double-elimination event held inside the Sturrus Sports & Fitness Center in Grand Rapids, Mich.
Â
The fifth-seeded Gray Wolves opened action dropping a 3-0 decision to fourth-ranked Lawrence Tech in the first round. Dropping into the loser's bracket, Lourdes had a bye in round one.
Â
Lourdes followed with a 3-2 victory over third-seeded Cleary to advance, making the Gray Wolves one of the final four teams in the tournament. Lourdes battled top-seeded Aquinas, narrowly suffering a 3-2 setback to eliminate the Gray Wolves.
Â
"I'm immensely proud of how our team showed up today," Esports coordinator
Lemar Daniels said afterwards. Â "We took a win over Cleary, who we hadn't beaten this season, and also took Aquinas, the favorite, to five games to close out the year. Â We had a lot of ups and downs this season but I feel that our top-four finish ends the season on a very positive note."
