Lourdes Hosts Concordia Friday in WHAC Opener

Upcoming in Gray Wolves Lacrosse: Lourdes opens up the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference portion of its 2021 season on Friday afternoon as the Gray Wolves host Concordia (Mich.) at Wildcat Stadium.  It is the first of eight WHAC contests on the schedule for this season.

Head Coach Patrick Yannarelli: In his sixth season on the Lourdes bench, Patrick Yannarelli has a 61-32 (.656) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves.  Yannarelli was named the NAIA National Coach of the Year in 2016.  He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.

Series Notes: Lourdes leads the all-time series against Concordia (Mich.) 3-0 dating back to March 22, 2017.  The two schools last met in 2019 when the Gray Wolves defeated the Cardinals 10-6 at Wildcat Stadium.  Lourdes is 2-0 all-time at home against Concordia.

Wrapping Up Last Week: The Gray Wolves fell behind 7-2 at halftime on the road at Cumberlands (Ky.) and were unable to complete the comeback, despite pulling within two goals in the fourth quarter.  Lourdes fell to the Patriots 11-7 on Saturday afternoon.  Cory Campbell led the Gray Wolves with three goals while Tyler Queen made 12 saves in goal.

Scouting Concordia (Mich.): The Cardinals remained undefeated on the season with a 12-11 victory on the road at Tennessee Wesleyan on Thursday.  Hunter McCarty leads Concordia with 12 goals and 16 points on the season while Blake Blaisdell has added seven goals and has 12 points.  Devin Wolever leads Concordia with six assists.  In goal, Sam Bowling has posted a 7.00 goals against average and a .674 save percentage.

Lourdes in WHAC Openers: Lourdes is 3-1 all-time in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference openers dating back to the 2016 season when the league began sponsoring the sport.  The Gray Wolves scored a 21-4 victory over Taylor to begin conference action in 2019.

Gilhooly Hands Out Assists: Drew Gilhooly has a team-leading four assists this season, giving him 28 for his career.  His career total of 28 helpers ranks fifth on the school's all-time chart.

Campbell on All-Time Scoring Lists: Cory Campbell ranks fifth in program history with 67 career goals, moving past Tanner Jaramillo (2016-2018) on the all-time list.  Campbell is 15 goals behind fourth place Dylan Gill (2014-2016).  Campbell is also fifth in school history with 27 career assists, moving by Mark O'Bryant (2017-2019).  He is 10 helpers behind fourth place Casey Hilfinger (2015-2018).  Campbell's 94 career points have pushed him by Hilfinger for fifth place on that list as well.

Noel Grabs Ground Balls: Jacob Noel has already grabbed a team-high 22 ground balls this season and ranks third in program history with 177 for his career.  He is just 11 ground balls behind Dylan Gill (2014-2016) for second on the all-time charts.

Winning Faceoffs: Jacob Noel has also won his share of faceoffs during his career at Lourdes.  His .642 faceoff percentage is best all-time for any Gray Wolf player.  This season, Noel is 27-for-40 (.675) at the X.  Zach Stahura has been just as good this season, winning 22-of-32 (.688) faceoffs.

Queen Steps Up in Goal: Having played just 45 total minutes in his career dating back to 2017 before this season, Tyler Queen has already seen more than 170 minutes of action in the cage.  Queen has posted a .544 save percentage and an 9.15 goals against average this year.
 
Captains: Lourdes has a trio of captains this season.  Serving in the leadership role are Luke Burridge, Drew Gilhooly, and Jacob Noel.

This and That: Lourdes is 3-4 all-time in overtime, but has not played more than 90 minutes since a double-overtime loss to #2 Madonna on April 17, 2019 ... the Gray Wolves have tallied 25 combined goals in the first and third quarters but just nine in the second and fourth periods.
