Upcoming in Gray Wolves Baseball: Lourdes opens the home portion of its 2021 baseball season on Wednesday afternoon as the Gray Wolves entertain Saint Ambrose in a doubleheader at Mercy Field.  The games were added earlier in the week to make up for previous cancellations for each school.

Head Coach Josh Bradford: In his second season in the Lourdes dugout, Josh Bradford has a 7-10 (.412) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves, as well as in his career as a collegiate head coach.  He is the third head coach in Lourdes program's history.

Probable Starters: Kolby Rogge (RHP, 0-0, 12.00) is scheduled to take the mound for the Gray Wolves in the opener of Wednesday's doubleheader.  Jagger Geck (LHP, 0-1, 13.50) will be handed the baseball in game two of the twinbill.

Series Notes: Lourdes and Saint Ambrose will be meeting on the baseball diamond for the first time ever Wednesday afternoon.

Wrapping Up Last Week (or Two Weeks Ago): Lourdes dropped its season opener against Truett McConnell 9-6 on Feb. 20 in Lawrenceville, Ga.  Joey Oehlers went 2-for-4 with three runs batted in for the Gray Wolves.  Later that night, Lourdes had its game suspended with third-ranked Georgia Gwinnett due to a power outage.  When the game resumed on Feb. 21, the Grizzlies posted a 15-10 victory.  Brad Ammons had a double and three RBI for Lourdes.  Later on that same day, Georgia Gwinnett posted a 17-13 victory over the Gray Wolves.  Bryce Gargus went 2-for-5 with four RBI.

Scouting Saint Ambrose: The Fighting Bees are still looking for their first victory of the season after being swept in a four-game series at Cumberlands (Ky.) on Feb. 24-25.  Shawn Rigsby leads the team with a .385 batting average with a pair of runs batted in while Cole Aughenbaugh is hitting at a .333 clip.  The pitching staff sports a 12.75 earned run average through the early part of the season, with opponents hitting .333 against Saint Ambrose hurlers.

Lourdes in Home Openers: Lourdes is 4-4 all-time in the Gray Wolves' home opener after defeating Spring Arbor 11-6 to begin the 2019 home campaign.  The Gray Wolves did not play any home games in 2020 due to the cancellation of the season because of COVID-19.  Lourdes also won its home openers in 2013 (Goshen, 3-1), 2016 (Goshen, 5-0), and 2018 (Michigan-Dearborn, 13-3).

First .500 Season Ever: Although it was an abbreviated season, Lourdes finished 2020 with a 7-7 record, marking the program's first .500 season in program history.  The Gray Wolves' previous best in terms of finishing near .500 was a 22-23 record in 2018.

Swinging the Bats: Lourdes batted .273 in the first weekend of the season with four hitters swinging at a .400 clip or higher.  Brad Ammons batted .462 (6-for-13) with five runs batted in while Joey Oehlers hit .429 (3-for-7) with four RBI.  Gabe Scot is batting .417 (5-for-12) while scoring eight times and Noah Childress hit .400 (4-for-10) with four RBI and six runs scored.

Swiping Bases: Lourdes went 7-for-7 on the base paths in its first three games of the season.  Jay Denman led the way with three swipes while Harrison Jackson also had a pair.

Drawing Walks: The Gray Wolves did a solid job of getting on base against Truett McConnell and Georgia Gwinnett, posting a .409 on base percentage.  Lourdes drew 18 walks and were hit by eight pitches.  Noah Childress enters the week with a .600 on base percentage.

Hitting Streaks: Brad Ammons, Gabe Scott, and Noah Childress have all hit safely in each of the three games this season.  In addition, Jay Denman has reached base in three consecutive games while Ammons has extended his on base streak to nine dating back to last season.

Gray Wolves Tabbed Seventh in WHAC Preseason Poll: Lourdes was picked to finish seventh in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference in the 2021 preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches.  The Gray Wolves were slotted just behind Aquinas and just ahead of Michigan-Dearborn.  Indiana Tech was picked as the preseason favorite.

This and That: Lourdes is 55-102 all-time at Mercy Field ... 27 different Gray Wolves saw the field on opening weekend ... Lourdes is 13-13 in extra inning contests after going 1-0 one season ago.
