Upcoming in Gray Wolves Baseball: Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play continues for Lourdes this weekend as the Gray Wolves play four games.  Lourdes will host Cleary for a twinbill on Saturday afternoon before heading to Rochester (Mich.) for a Sunday doubleheader.

Head Coach Josh Bradford: In his second season in the Lourdes dugout, Josh Bradford has a 15-17 (.469) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves, as well as in his career as a collegiate head coach.  He is the third head coach in Lourdes program's history.

Probable Starters: Kolby Rogge (RHP, 2-2, 4.21) is scheduled to take the mound for the Gray Wolves in the opener of Saturday's doubleheader against Cleary.  Jagger Geck (LHP, 2-1, 7.91) is the probable starter for game two of the twinbill with the Cougars.  Braxton McKart (RHP, 0-0, 3.86) will take the mound for game one at Rochester (Mich.) on Sunday.  The Gray Wolves have not announced a game two starter at this time.

Series Notes: Cleary holds an 8-6 all-time series edge against Lourdes dating back to March 14, 2015.  The Gray Wolves and Cougars split a twinbill the last time they met, during the 2019 season, with Lourdes winning game one 6-5 before Cleary took game two 11-10.  The series is tied 4-4 at Mercy Field.  Lourdes holds a 13-7 advantage against Rochester (Mich.) in a series that began March 18, 2012.  The Gray Wolves have won the last 11 meetings between the two schools after sweeping the Warriors 10-9 and 9-2 at Mercy Field in 2019.  Lourdes holds a 4-1 edge in games played in Rochester Hills, Mich.

Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes managed just five hits in the WHAC opener on Saturday (March 20), falling in game one to Aquinas 6-0.  The Gray Wolves earned a walk-off win in game two 6-5 as Devin Rooks and Noah Childress each had three hits.  Lourdes tallied just two hits in game one on Sunday at Wright State-Lake in a 4-0 setback.  The Lakers took game two 4-2 despite a combined one-hitter by Zach Brown and Travis Thompson.

Scouting Cleary: The Cougars have dropped four straight games after being swept by Mount Vernon Nazarene 8-3 and 8-2 on Tuesday (March 23) afternoon.  Jessie Fishbaum is hitting a team-leading .403 while Ryan Kadoguchi is swinging at a .392 clip.  Jeremy VanOosterum has two home runs and a team-high 19 RBI as Cleary is batting .308 as a team.  The Cougars pitching staff sports a 7.82 earned run average and is allowing the opposition to hit .361 against them.

Scouting Rochester (Mich.): The Warriors enter the weekend having dropped both ends of a non-conference doubleheader at Concordia (Mich.) 6-3 and 9-1 last Sunday (March 21).  Rochester hosts Siena Heights on Saturday before entertaining Lourdes.  Ty Marasco leads the Warriors batting .436 while Bruce Kudela has a .423 batting average.  Brandon Williams leads the team with eight RBI for an offense hitting .276 as a team.  The pitching staff sports a 10.13 earned run average with opponents batting .335 against them.

Walk-Off Winners: The Gray Wolves have had a flair for the dramatic this season, winning four of their eight contests in walk-off fashion.  Devin Rooks delivered a game-winning single in the bottom of the ninth for a 14-13 game two win against Saint Ambrose on March 3 in the first thrilling finish.  In game two against Point Park on March 10, Gabe Scott has the game-winning hit in the bottom of the seventh of a 9-8 victory.  On March 14, Lourdes defeated Cincinnati-Clermont 4-3 in game one on a walk-off balk.  The most recent walk-off win came last Saturday (March 20) in game two against Aquinas as Noah Childress had the game-winning single.

Solid Pitching Last Weekend: Kolby Rogge gave Lourdes eight innings allowing just three earned runs last Saturday in game one against Aquinas.  He lowered his ERA to 4.21 with a team-high 18 strikeouts.  Jagger Geck allowed just one run out of the bullpen in four innings in game two of the Aquinas twinbill, earning the win.  Harrison Gargus had 3.1 innings of scoreless relief from the bullpen on Sunday in game one at Wright State-Lake and now has a 2.16 ERA.  In game two, Zach Brown did not allow a hit in three innings while Travis Thompson yielded just one in relief against the Lakers. Thompson did not allow an earned run in his three innings of work.

Getting on Base: Jay Denman has reached base safely in all 18 games this season for the Gray Wolves.  He had a 12-game hitting streak earlier this season and is batting .290.

Childress Solid at the Plate: Noah Childress is batting a team-leading .431 this year for the Gray Wolves with 25 hits in 18 games.  He shares the team lead with Jay Denman, hitting four home runs, and has driving in a team-high 13 runs.

Defense Lets Down Pitchers: The Lourdes defense has already committed 40 errors in just 18 games, leading to 30 unearned runs this far this year.

Gray Wolves Tabbed Seventh in WHAC Preseason Poll: Lourdes was picked to finish seventh in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference in the 2021 preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches.  The Gray Wolves were slotted just behind Aquinas and just ahead of Michigan-Dearborn.  Indiana Tech was picked as the preseason favorite.

This and That: Lourdes has won three straight extra inning games dating back to 2019 and is 14-13 all-time when playing beyond regulation ... Harrison Jackson is 6-for-6 on stolen base attempts ... Noah Childress has been hit by five pitches ... opponents are batting just .125 against Travis Thompson, who has struck out 10 and not allowed a run in 6.2 innings of action.
