Upcoming in Gray Wolves Baseball: A four-game road trip is ahead for the Gray Wolves this week. Lourdes will make up a doubleheader at Rochester (Mich.) on Tuesday afternoon before heading to Cornerstone on Saturday for a twinbill against the Golden Eagles.
Head Coach Josh Bradford: In his second season in the Lourdes dugout,
Josh Bradford has a 16-18 (.471) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves, as well as in his career as a collegiate head coach. He is the third head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Probable Starters: Braxton McKart (RHP, 0-0, 3.86) will take the mound for game one at Rochester (Mich.) on Tuesday.
Zach Brown (RHP, 2-1, 9.00) is the probable starter for game two of the doubleheader.
Kolby Rogge (RHP, 2-2, 3.72) is scheduled to take the mound for the Gray Wolves in the opener of Saturday's doubleheader at Cornerstone.
Jagger Geck (LHP, 3-1, 5.93) is the probable starter for game two of the twinbill with the Golden Eagles.
Series Notes: Lourdes holds a 13-7 advantage against Rochester (Mich.) in a series that began March 18, 2012. The Gray Wolves have won the last 11 meetings between the two schools after sweeping the Warriors 10-9 and 9-2 at Mercy Field in 2019. Lourdes holds a 4-1 edge in games played in Rochester Hills, Mich. Cornerstone holds a slim 12-11 series edge against Lourdes in a series that began April 5, 2013. The two schools split their last doubleheader during the 2019 campaign at Mercy Field, with the Golden Eagles winning the opener 10-0 and Lourdes taking the nightcap 5-1. The Gray Wolves hold a 7-6 all-time edge in Grand Rapids, Mich.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes battled back with four runs in the ninth inning of game one on Saturday to force extra innings with Cleary, but the Cougars won in 10 innings 15-10 at Mercy Field.
Brad Ammons had four hits for the Gray Wolves. In game two,
Jagger Geck limited the Cougars to one run and three hits over eight innings as Lourdes posted a 5-1 victory.
Harrison Jackson went 3-for-4 at the plate for the Gray Wolves.
Scouting Rochester (Mich.): The Warriors have dropped three straight games after falling at home to Siena Heights 8-6 on Saturday (March 27). Bruce Kudela leads Rochester with a .452 batting average. Ty Marasco is hitting .432 while Brandon Williams leads the team with nine RBI for an offense hitting .275 as a team. The pitching staff sports a 9.62 earned run average with opponents batting .326 against them.
Scouting Cornerstone: The Golden Eagles enter the week having split a doubleheader with Lawrence Tech on Saturday (March 27), losing the opener 6-5 before winning game two 6-1. Cornerstone heads to Siena Heights on Tuesday before hosting Lourdes. Jordan Wenzel leads the Golden Eagles batting .425 with 10 runs batted in while Eric Bradberry has a .313 average with eight RBI. As a team, Cornerstone is hitting .272 while the pitching staff sports a 6.30 earned run average and opponents are hitting .301 against them.
Geck Earns WHAC Honors: Jagger Geck was named the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week after limiting Cleary to just one run and three hits over eight innings while picking up his third victory of the season on Saturday. The sophomore struck out five, walked three, and did not allow a hit after the fourth inning.
Schedule Updates: Lourdes will make up its postponed game with Rochester (Mich.) from Sunday on Tuesday afternoon in Rochester Hills, Mich. Thus the scheduled non-conference game at Huntington has been postponed and will be rescheduled on April 20 in Huntington, Ind. Finally ,the Gray Wolves' scheduled doubleheader at Michigan-Dearborn has been moved to Mercy Field on April 9, one day earlier than originally scheduled.
Ammons Has Four Hits: Brad Ammons had the Gray Wolves' third four-hit game of the season in the opener against Cleary, and has raised his average to .301 on the year.
Gabe Scott and
Bryce Gargus also have had four-hit games this year for Lourdes.
Jackson Getting Hot: Harrison Jackson had four hits in the doubleheader against Cleary, including a 3-for-4 effort in game two on Saturday. He scored three times in the win and has raised his averaged to .254 on the year.
Getting on Base: Jay Denman has reached base safely in all 20 games this season for the Gray Wolves. He had a 12-game hitting streak earlier this season and is batting .290 and currently is tied with
Harrison Jackson for the longest active streak, four straight games.
Childress Strong at the Plate: Noah Childress is batting a team-leading .409 this year for the Gray Wolves with 27 hits in 20 games. He leads Lourdes with five home runs after belting another against Cleary, and has a team-high 15 RBI.
Gray Wolves Tabbed Seventh in WHAC Preseason Poll: Lourdes was picked to finish seventh in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference in the 2021 preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches. Indiana Tech was picked as the preseason favorite.
This and That: Lourdes had won three straight extra inning games before falling to Cleary, and is 14-14 all-time when playing beyond regulation ...
