Match #8: Saturday, September 25, 7 p.m. EDT
at Siena Heights (3-1, 0-0 WHAC)
O'Laughlin Stadium - Adrian, Mich.

Upcoming in Gray Wolves Soccer: After a successful non-conference portion of the schedule, Lourdes begins Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference action this week as the Gray Wolves take to the road to battle Siena Heights.

Head Coach Matt Johnson: Matt Johnson took over as the second head coach in program's history prior to the 2019 season.  Johnson sports a 95-106-9 (.474) record overall in his 11th season as a men's collegiate soccer coach and has a 20-22-1 (.477) mark in his second year at Lourdes.

Series Notes: Lourdes holds a 4-2 all-time series edge against Siena Heights dating back to Oct. 24, 2015.  Last October the Saints won the match-up against the Gray Wolves on the field 2-1 but later had to forfeit the result, extending Lourdes winning streak to three straight matches in the series.  The series is now tied 1-1 in Adrian, Mich.

Wrapping Up Last Week: Farouk Amoo scored his second goal of the match midway through the second half as Lourdes defeated Goshen 2-1 on Wednesday (Sept. 15) at home in the final non-conference tilt of the season for the Gray Wolves.  Amoo also put Lourdes in front 1-0 with a goal in the 16th minute before the Maple Leafs tied the match just before halftime.  Jorge Mendoza made two first half saves for Lourdes in goal while Garrett Baxley made one stop over the final 45 minutes.

Scouting Siena Heights: The Saints enter WHAC play having won three consecutive matches following a 2-1 double-overtime victory at home over Taylor last Wednesday (Sept. 15).  Gustavo Barros leads Siena Heights having scored three goals and tallied seven total points on the year.  Nolan Chaput and Marcelo Rocha each have added a goal and an assist.  In goal, Jacob Wojciechowski has played a majority of the minutes for the Saints, sporting a 1.46 goals against average and a .714 save percentage.

Gray Wolves in WHAC Openers: Lourdes is 3-2-1 all-time in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference openers.  The Gray Wolves have won three of their last four league openers after downing Cornerstone 3-0 at home to begin conference play in 2020.  Lourdes is 2-1 when opening the league slate on the road.

On a Scoring Tear: Farouk Amoo has scored five goals over his last two matches for the Gray Wolves, giving him the team lead with six tallies this season.  Amoo notched his second career hat trick against Point Park on Sept. 11 before scoring twice against Goshen on Sept. 15.  Amoo now has 15 total points on the year having added three assists as well.

A Winning Non-Conference Slate: Lourdes has recorded a winning record (5-2) in non-conference play for the first time since 2016 when the Gray Wolves opened the pre-WHAC schedule with a 5-0 record.

Sbeiti Reaches Double Figures in Points: Hussein Sbeiti handed out his second assist of the season on the match-winner against Goshen.  He now has 10 total points having also scored four times on the year.

Handing Out Assists: Andris Klempert and Farouk Amoo share the team lead with three assists each this season.  A total of 12 different Gray Wolves have dished out at least one helper through the first six contests.

Solid in Goal: Igor Silva, who had played a total of eight seconds in his career prior to this season, has had a strong start in 2021.  He has played 540 minutes between the posts this year for the Gray Wolves and sports a 1.17 goals against average on the year.  He has made 19 saves for a .731 save percentage.  Silva also has a pair of shutouts to his credit in his six matches.

Mixing Up the Lineup: Lourdes has used a variety of combinations in their starting 11 this year.  A total of 18 different players have drawn at least one starting assignment, with only Kevin Gonzalez and N'Faly Diallo earning the starting nod in all seven matches.

Into the Single Season Books Already: As a team, Lourdes has scored 20 goals through seven matches this year, a total that has moved the 2021 squad into fifth place in program history for most goals scored in a year.  The Gray Wolves are four goals shy of the 2015 team which scored 24 goals.  The 19 assists rank fourth in school history while the team's 59 points to date ranks the Gray Wolves fifth on the single season charts in that category as well.

Amoo Third All-Time in Scoring: Farouk Amoo has scored 16 goals over his four years with the Gray Wolves, moving him into third place on the school's all-time list.  Amoo is just three goals behind second place Judah Goodridge (2015-2017).  His eight assists also rank third in program history, one behind Akilla Arno (2015-2017) for second.  Amoo's 40 career points are three behind Goodridge for second in that category as well.

Gray Wolves Tabbed Fifth in WHAC Preseason Poll: Lourdes was selected to finish in fifth place in the WHAC this season in the preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches.  The Gray Wolves were picked just behind fourth place Madonna.  Indiana Tech was the unanimous selection to win the league crown.
