Upcoming in Gray Wolves Soccer: A five-match season-opening road trip comes to an end for Lourdes on Tuesday evening as the Gray Wolves head to Holy Cross (Ind.). Lourdes returns to Wildcat Stadium for its home opener on Saturday afternoon, as the Gray Wolves entertain Point Park.
Head Coach Matt Johnson: Matt Johnson took over as the second head coach in program's history prior to the 2019 season. Johnson sports a 93-105-9 (.471) record overall in his 11th season as a men's collegiate soccer coach and has a 18-21-1 (.463) mark in his second year at Lourdes.
Series Notes: Holy Cross (Ind.) defeated Lourdes 1-0 indoors in Rossford, Ohio in the only previous meeting between the two schools on Feb. 8, 2021. The Gray Wolves are 1-0 all-time against Point Park, having defeated the Pioneers 3-2 on Sept. 12, 2020 in Pittsburgh, Pa.
Wrapping Up Last Week: In a match that saw six second half goals,
Diego Pereira scored his second goal of the match with just 27 seconds remaining in regulation to give Lourdes a 4-3 victory over Bethel (Ind.) on Wednesday evening (Sept. 1).
Leon Eisert and
Hussein Sbeiti both had goals as well for the Gray Wolves while
Igor Silva made five saves between the posts. On Saturday (Sept. 4), Georgetown (Ky.) scored the lone goal of the match with 4:32 remaining as the Tigers defeated the Gray Wolves 1-0. Silva made four stops for Lourdes.
Scouting Holy Cross (Ind.): The Saints have won back-to-back matches after posting a 2-0 victory at home against Marian last Wednesday (Sept. 1). Gabe Nyenka leads Holy Cross with four goals and eight points while Patton Synder has a team-high two assists. In goal, Claudio Fuentealba has played the majority of the minutes, sporting a 0.50 goals against average and a .857 save percentage.
Scouting Point Park: The Pioneers have dropped back-to-back matches after falling on the road at Westminster 2-0 on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 5). Moritz Sarfert and Rafael Murube share the team lead with three goals each. Sarfert has added a team-best five assists for 11 total points. In goal, Andrew Russell has played a majority of the minutes, sporting a 1.69 goals against average and a .667 save percentage this season.
Lourdes in Home Openers: Lourdes is 2-3-1 all-time in home openers after snapping a three-match winless streak last season. The Gray Wolves opened their home campaign in 2020 with a 1-0 victory over Concordia (Mich.) at Wildcat Stadium.
Quite a Debut: Diego Pereira made his first Lourdes appearance last Wednesday at Bethel (Ind.), scoring a pair of goals for the Gray Wolves, including the match-winner with 23 seconds remaining in regulation. Pereira only took two shots the entire match, with both finding the back of the net.
Eisert Adds to Season's Scoring Lead: Leon Eisert scored the first goal of the match at Bethel (Ind.) to give him a team-leading four goals and nine points this season. He now has five career goals and five assists for 15 total points in just 12 total contests for the Gray Wolves.
Handing Out Assists: Andris Klempert handed out his team-leading third assist of the season against Bethel (Ind.).
Farouk Amoo also had a helper for the Gray Wolves against the Pilots, giving him two this year. Klempert and Amoo both had seven career assists now, matching teammate
Savio Adams for third place on the Gray Wolves' career assist list.
A Mainstay in Goal: Igor Silva, who had played a total of eight seconds in his career prior to this season, has had a solid start in 2021. He has played all 360 minutes between the posts this year for the Gray Wolves and now sports a 1.25 goals against average on the year. He has made 14 saves for a .737 save percentage.
Ramirez Rios Earns First Career Point: Ariel Ramirez Rios notched his first collegiate assist on Wednesday at Bethel (Ind.). The sophomore, who has appeared in nine career matches, drew a helper on the second goal of the match.

Jose Silveira are serving as the Gray Wolves' captains for the second straight season.
Longest Road Trip in Program History: Lourdes opens the 2021 regular season with five consecutive matches away from home, the longest road trip in program history. The Gray Wolves previously played four consecutive road contests from Oct. 7-18, 2017, dropping all four matches played during the trip.
Lots of Experience: Olawole Ogunsanya enters the week as the school record holder for matches played, having appeared in 64 contests.
Jose Silveira is tied for second all-time at Lourdes with 57 appearances, matching Reece Riccardi's (2016-2019) total.
Robert Pereznegron enters the week fifth on the all-time list with 53 career matches played. Pereznegron also is third all-time with 43 career starts.
Gray Wolves Tabbed Fifth in WHAC Preseason Poll: Lourdes was selected to finish in fifth place in the WHAC this season in the preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches. The Gray Wolves were picked just behind fourth place Madonna. Indiana Tech was the unanimous selection to win the league crown.
This and That: Lourdes has a 39-59-6 all-time record ... the Gray Wolves are 23-32-1 all-time on the road and 15-26-5 at Wildcat Stadium ... 10 different Lourdes players have registered at least one point this season with six scoring goals ... the Gray Wolves have yet to yield a goal in the opening 45 minutes of action.
